You know...I really cannot stand Shoryuken's forums.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

There are more mentioned in the following posts, but if it's not on there it's probably not a game to write home about (unless you're collecting and couldn't care less about the game's quality).

What do you currently play, anyway?

For the Saturn? Well, lately I've been spending lots of time with Samurai Shodown III, and before that I was playing a lot of Cyberbots and X-Men: Children of the Atom. I might start spending more time with King of Fighters '96 soon.

As for current consoles, I play Virtua Fighter 5 on the 360 the most, though I tend not to go for online play. My 360's starting to freeze up while I'm playing it now, so I'm worried it's about to RRoD on me. I can't afford any of the other current gen consoles!

As for other retro consoles, I've got a few for the PS2(really liking my SF Alpha Anthology and King of Fighters XI), way more for the Nintendo 64 than any sane man should own(need a memory card to really appreciate the good ones though...), and every fighter released stateside on the SNES. And if you're ever in my neck of the woods, I'm more than willing to go a few rounds in any of them.

Honestly, if you're that into fighters, you should look into installing GGPO and playing online with other people. You could also try 2df and I believe that client may support more KOF games than GGPO, which only supports 98 and 2002 - which are the most popular games in the series, anyway. 2df also has support for other 2 player games like Shock Troopers, Metal Slug, etc.

So, if you have a controller and a decent connection - give it a shot.

Yeah, I need to pick up a good controller for my PC. I also need to run some repairs(or replacement) on a few of my current controllers.

What do you recommend for PC gaming?

Oh yeah, I suppose I should add that I play more than just fighters...but survival horror tends not to be multiplayer and my computer isn't where it needs to be to play the latest first person shooters...

Well, for survival horror multiplayer you can always try Left 4 Dead. I played the demo for about 30 hours until it expired - obviously I was feelin' the game quite a bit. Of course, you have to buy it now since the demo period is over, but the source engine isn't very taxing at all if your PC isn't exactly state of the art. I was able to run it at a very good FPS on my 7600 GT. (I also have a somewhat dated Pentium D and 2 GB of RAM, so that might make a difference)

As long as you have 3 competent friends/players to play with, the game is a ridiculous amount of fun and I can't stress that enough.

About your controller, maybe you should buy one of those USB Saturn pads (if that's what you're accustomed to). I personally prefer my PSone Dual Shock which works perfectly for me with the SmartJoy adapter. Just don't use a PS2 controller because the pressure sensitive d-pad is a bit awkward (for me at least, it has a different feel).

Ah, I'll be going with the PS1 Dual Shocks then. Honestly I'm still getting the hang of my Saturn controllers...stuck with the beefy model 1s right now, so I'm having to deal with the hindrance. I hadn't heard about the D-pad troubles with PS2 USB controllers, though. That's a real shame.

It's not a problem as much as it is a personal preference. The d-pad is just firmer on the DS and is probably a bit friendlier for input precision, some people like the DS2 more so I don't know.
