Wow, this discussion is incredibly relevant to my latest purchase.

I picked up a newer black Wii with two Wii Motes / Nunchucks and two Classic Controllers last night from someone for $80. It also had New Super Mario Bros still in the disc slot, which I don't think she meant for me to have, as well as a few games that she'd downloaded via Virtual Console. I already have New Super Mario Bros Wii, as well as the majority of the VC titles for their respective original systems, so decided to just wipe the console.

During our negotiations over price, she kept telling me that it was BC, and I assured her that all Wii's are BC, at which point she sent me a link that flat out proved me wrong  Up until then, I was under the impression that they were all BC. Oh well, I'm happy with the purchase and I don't mind being proven wrong if it means I learn something new.

I also scored an older Xbox 360 with a Wi-fi Adapter and 60GB HDD around the same time from someone else for $60. I actually already owned one, though mine often wouldn't read game discs. Rather than bust it open and attempt to fix it, I figured I'd just find another one the cheap.

The one I got is a bit beat up, but seems to work fine. The only issue was that the disc tray refused to open when I stood it up vertically. Unwilling to compromise and lay it flat, I sat there being frustrated until my girlfriend found a YouTube tutorial saying that the easiest fix was simply to open the tray, carefully remove and clean the rubber band, and then put it back. Low and behold, after some fiddling and swearing, it worked.

TLDR, I scored a replacement 360, now with a bigger HDD and wireless internet, and a BC Wii with some nice accessories for a grand total of $140. Not too shabby.

That's awesome. I would love another 360. My old one was going to blow up (disk drive was really grindy and the fans ran full throttle the whole time it was on). So, I traded it towards my PS4 purchase. I'm waiting until the new ones sell for under $200, if that ever happens.

My good luck streak at the thrifts continues. Picked up an NES w/Rad Racer (no cords/controllers) for $5, an N64 w/power adapter for $10, and a PS2 Slim w/ 1 controller, a microphone, Disney's Sing It, AV cord, & power cord for $15 from my new favorite honey hole. EDIT - forgot to mention, it was discount day so the total was $25 & change.

Elsewhere I also got Abe's Exodus (CIB) for $4, Batman Forever (CIB) for $1 and C-12 Final Resistance (CIB) for $1.

The 72 pin on the NES needed to be replaced, the PS2's laser assembly desperately needed lubing, and the N64 had some cracks in the shell that I didn't notice until I took it apart for cleaning and one of the corners fell off (held on by the screw). After letting the shell soak in warm soapy water it became severely discolored in some spots for some reason (different console shown in pic because actual one is still in pieces). I've never seen that before. Even more fun, the N64 had a bit of an infestation at one time. There were lot of dead bugs in it. Pretty nasty but far from the worst I've seen, though it's something I seem to be running into a lot more than I want to with these thrift store consoles.

Other notables this week are Pokémon Ruby, Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town & More Friends of Mineral Town, and Mario Kart Super Circuit for $3 each and Harvest Moon Island of Happiness and Pokémon Pearl for $4 each.

For better or worse, I decided to start hitting the thrift stores on my lunch break instead of after work. I've been finding a lot of great stuff early in the day and I know what times a lot of these places stock their shelves now so I figure if I get there as the stuff is hitting the shelves I won't be getting the scraps later on in the day. I got some decent stuff today.

Grabbed a Game Gear with Streets of Rage 2 for $8 and my 2nd & 3rd copies this week of Mario Kart Double Dash (no manuals) for $4 each (one in a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles case (never hurts to check all game cases if you have time)). The sound on the Game Gear doesn't work with the speaker and is pretty faint with headphones so it's going in my "project" pile.

After work I stumbled onto 2 GB pockets for $10 each. Used a coupon to get them for $7. The screen protector on the red one is gone and there is some minor LCD bleeding at the bottom but it still works great.

A post I think CRT and Exed will appreciate...

While out xmas shopping, my wife needed an 'ugly sweater' for her office holiday party so we stopped by Savers. I was browsing the games and found a PC game from 2003 called Ghost Master.

Image
Ghost Master casts you as an afterlife civil servant whose job is to frighten lowly mortals from their homes and places of work. You'll have command over legions of ghosts, ghouls, and spirits to help you with this task. In addition, you can use a wide range of scaring tools to drive out unwanted guests. Ghost Master also features a simple game interface, intelligent enemies, and enhanced graphics.
Sounds familiar, no? Sounds like Haunting Starring Polterguy to me!

I mean even:
Another limiting factor is "Plasm". This numerical resource dictates which abilities a ghost can use. As a human becomes frightened, Plasm is generated. With more Plasm, stronger abilities (and more ghosts) can be fielded at any one time.
Apparently the game was released on PS2 and Xbox as well, and has since appeared on GOG and Steam with extra content. Weird. I can't believe I've never heard of this. Got the PC copy for $2.

Weird that it has console releases too. Looks like one of those cheapo PC games you'd find at Staples and Target.
