Meh, I've read better N-G threads. After Aero Fighters III, everything else there just pales in comparison.EllertMichael wrote:Anyone interested in Retro Gamer Magazine owes it to themselves to peruse the thread over at neo-geo.com about the Metal Slug feature.

Re: Retro Gamer Magazine
I'm excited for Retro magazine. Two of the Retronauts guys will be contributing to it, so that works for me. Speaking of the Retronauts guys, I love Jeremy Parish's Anatomy of a Game series. He goes level by level through different games. There is often some insight that I would never think of just playing through a particular game. Might be more in line with what some people in this thread are looking for in terms of in-depth analysis of retro games.

Oh yeah Ellert, I don't disagree with you at all. However, it went quickly from constructive criticism to nearly 4chan-level of rabid fanboyism with the bandwagon jumping. Deuce seemed like the only reasonable poster on the first few pages.
I think the Neo-Geo forums were founded in correcting and providing criticism, but quickly devolved an all out flame-war. I stopped reading when Stuart couldn't get it into his thick skull that his overall demeanor reflected poorly upon those who employ him.
Do I think the OP needed to cool his jets and compose his first post a little better? Yes, I think there could've been some more organization about what could've been included that was omitted, to the more nitpicked things that were more of personal gripes.
But Stuart could've heeded the saying, "The greatest battle is the one not fought," noted the criticism and address it in a later issue. Instead of flying off the cuff and confirming everyone's suspicions.

I guess by that logic, everyone should stop reading New York Times. It sucks, they've published more than a few retractions.

Re: Retro Gamer Magazine
Blu, I wasn't responding to Retro Gamer magazine specifically. I was responding to this idea that just because an article is about video games that quality control shouldn't be held to such a high standard. The fact is some people are passionate about this hobby (and this applies to any hobby, hence my Stamp Collector analogy) and they shouldn't be scoffed at when trying to set the record straight (personal feelings about neo-geo.com aside). And especially not with an opinion piece disguised as a "Definitive" article.
No one here ever said "Don't read Retro Gamer because of one bad article they published."
