You know...I really cannot stand Shoryuken's forums.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

You know...I really cannot stand Shoryuken's forums.

Post by Ack »

So I wanted to post a couple of questions on Shoryuken.com's forums to see what info I could get. Now I'm sitting in a queue waiting to be allowed to talk, I cannot view any of the threads in the forum that would likely have an answer, the search tool times out every time I look for something, and if I try refreshing it tells me that I have to wait another 30 seconds before posting. Not to mention my tag was too short to be accepted into their forums(always annoys me).

This is bloody aggravating.

Is this supposed to generate any discussion other than "ya i agree srk blows hard"? Really surprising to see a thread of this nature from a moderator.

Actually I was hoping more for a "Usually it takes about 'X' number of days" or a "Shoot, I'll ask for you" response, not a bitch about Shoryuken thread.

But for the record, I also just discovered that to access the information I would like, I'll have to pay money. I'm not a big fan of forums requiring me to pay for them, which is a shame, as I thought Shoryuken could really help.

So in retrospect, I went to the website thinking "Hey, I should join. There's lots of folks talking fighting games, it'll be fun. I can ask some questions and hopefully get some good answers." But now...well, I just don't see myself going back. And frankly I think my position as a moderator lends nothing to the conversation either way. I went to a website that is well-known in the gamer community to see if I could find some answers and I had a bad experience. It's not necessarily the case for everyone, but perhaps someone who was considering going there for the same reasons I was, to ask questions about older fighting games, will now not have to go through a hassle to find out that they can't get what they want without paying for it.

Any of you guys on Shoryuken? Do you like it and the services it provides, with tournaments and helping gamers meet up to play a few rounds? Anybody had the same troubles with it that I'm having? Do you feel it has a positive or negative effect on the gaming community?

Heck, for that matter, any of you guys tournament gamers?

Really? So why didn't you do that instead of using your entire post to complain about the forums? If anything could be assumed from your thread title, it's that you had an annoying experience and wanted to share it for some reason--possibly looking for agreements, who knows.

But, I find it hard to believe that it was your intention to get people to reach out and give you a hand when you couldn't even ask that much to begin with.

EDIT: Just noticed you edited your post so I will add that I have an account there and no, you don't need to pay in order to access whatever information you're trying to get. Donating money simply gives you premium member features like the ability to give infractions, use a larger avatar, etc. Also, I'm not a "tournament" gamer but I do play on GGPO quite frequently, casuals being my main interest and not so much competing against people to prove myself or anything.

Paying also gives you access to the Private forums, of which the "Fighting Game Discussion" area is a part, which is exactly what I was interested in. And since I am not allowed to access that board(if I try to open it it brings up a "No New Posts in the Last 30 Days" menu), or even search it to see if it might contain what I was interested in, I feel unable to access that information.

And did I strike a nerve? I'm sorry if you feel I've insulted a site you enjoy. Maybe I'm misreading your tone, but you seem rather upset by this. Perhaps I should have waited a bit after the experience to post my troubles with their site, cleared my head a little I suppose, but I still had those difficulties and it still bothers me. I don't mean to get into a fight with you about it. In fact, maybe you could help me. I wanted to know if there were any threads talking about Sega Saturn fighting games. I'm still trying to complete that list I made, and I figured there would be no better place to ask. Would you be willing to help me out?

Hmm...it would seem that I am now able to access the Private forums. I believe I have just taken my foot and inserted it into my mouth.

Sorry, lodestar, you were right. I was wrong.

Not true, you don't need to donate in order to view that forum.

I'm not sure if there are any discussions about Sega Saturn fighting games that are currently active since I don't think they're all that popular. It also depends on what type of information you're looking for. Guides? Port discussions? Material pertaining to the game's story/timeline?

EDIT: Nevermind the first part then. Also, I don't exactly enjoy the site - which is why I don't post there very often.

Blargh...it's still giving me trouble. Tell you what, I'll show you what it's showing me.

I don't understand why it's doing this. Mostly I'm just looking for a list of fighting games released on the console. I figured I could post what I currently had and then ask if anybody else knew of titles I hadn't included.

Hmm, not sure, but maybe it's related to you not being "allowed to talk" yet.

Try this for info. on Saturn fighting games.

Thanks for the help man. Unfortunately it looks like I've got everything mentioned on the list, but hopefully that's a sign I'm getting close to having all of them.
