The controls aren't what ruins it for me, it's the physics. It's like the designers have never played a DKC game in their life. Stuff like the building momentum of the roll when you hit an enemy with it, the way the barrels roll, the way you bounce off of enemies when you jump off of them - it's all wrong, and those are the things that defined the DKC series imo.

DKCR is fine, it'd just have been better off being called something else.

The ass controls kill the whole thing for me.
How do I do this? I really, really want that hack!
I know little about Wii hacking. Here's a little article about it...

While playing Super Mario 3d World, which I am all Star coins up to World 6, I got back in the mood to go and find those missing Star Coins in New Super Mario Wii U, this morning I finally found them all and got my 3rd Star on my profile and can finally start Superstar Road (I was waiting until I had unlocked all levels in that world before starting it.)

Some of the coins were brutal!

There's a LOT of things about DKCR that make it seem like they never played a DKC game. There was a time where I felt like I was the only person who noticed this.

The music doesn't fit. The use of Diddy doesn't fit. The lack of animals doesn't fit. The rather noticeable spike up in difficulty doesn't fit. It's DKC in name only

I hope Tropical Freeze is better. Playing through DKC and DKC 2 were two of the most fun experiences I had when I was young. DKCR didn't recapture ANY of those feelings AT ALL.

I am now 5 stages down, 3 stars on them, on Superstar Road. Utterly brutal, I am having some Super Meat Boy style rage quits.

I'd like to play Devil's Advocate here.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a really fun game if you stop comparing it to the original Trilogy and just enjoy it for what it is.

Agreed.

DKCR was a poor DKC game, but a great platformer. The "K" stages and last 2 worlds in particular were very well done.

I disagree. Even thinking back on it now, there's nothing that stands out in my mind that was GREAT about DKCR. I can't remember a single level or boss fight and I beat the game. That's how forgettable the whole thing was

I STILL remember levels, boss battles and music tracks from DKC and DKC 2 to this day, as well as stuff from other classics like the Sonic games, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Earthworm Jim, Mischief Makers, Astal, the Ratchet and Clank games, the Sly Cooper games, Maximo, Medieval, etc, etc.

I don't know. I just think DKCR was a soulless game. It was a formulaic platformer that drew no inspiration from its lineage other than superficial things

There you go again, comparing Donkey Kong Country Returns to the original games. If you stop doing that, you'll be able to enjoy this game. Nothing will ever live up to Donkey Kong Country 1 or 2. Put aside your expectations, and just have fun with this new(ish) game.

I definitely recall levels and bosses. How could you forget about the awesome music level in World 7, with all these hammers and presses moving to the beat of some pretty nice music, or the ridiculous side-scrolling rocket stages, or the vertical scrolling shmup-like stages, or the great mine cart runs?

And, if these bosses are forgettable, then so are DKC bosses. Actually, I'll go as far as to say that DKCR has better bosses overall than either DKC 1 or 2.

Its nothing like the older games... and I am thankful for that. If it had just tried to copy/paste the formula and spirit of the older games... it STILL wouldn't have been a touch on them. I mean, look at DKC 3. It was a solid game, that stuck to the formula pretty well... and so few people play it compared to the first 2 games. How do you think DKCR would have stacked up if it would have followed suit?
