CPU Underclocked

Post by masonyes »

I have an amd XP 1600, the megahertz should be 1400. However it is running at 1050.2 mhz. The multiplier is set at 10.5x and the voltage is 1.728. I don't know what to change the bios settings to get it running at 1400.

Thanks
You know that story, about how NASA spent millions of dollars developing this pen that writes in Zero G? Did you ever read that?
You know how the Russians solved the problem?
They used a pencil.

maybe the FSB frequency..but I would not play with that so much
I've got no signature.

Final frequency is FSB * multiplier.

(FSB = Front Side Bus)

So for a final 1400MHz with a 10.5 multiplier, you want a 133 MHz FSB.

If you're getting 1050MHz, it means your FSB is at 100 MHz, which is generally the default for older systems (so that they didn't over-drive older Athlon and Duron hardware that required a 100MHz FSB).

The 1600+ means that the performance would be equivilent to a 1600 mhz chip, although its clock speed really isnt that high (usually about 60-80%). This is a common thing that chip makers do, especially Cyrix in the mid-90s. Honestly, if you want to see a performance boost, buy a $30 sempron 2800+ or something that fits your socket and it will fix the problem!

The OP's post mentions the stock speed for a 1600+ is 1400MHz.
