It's a misnomer that the Vita is useless without a memory card. Several of the games save to the cart. It should say on the box whether you need one or not. If you think you can get by with a small one, I have a 4gb card I could get rid of.

You definitely don't need a huge memory card; but you will most asurredly want one!

The Vita's strongest feature is the content found in the PS Store. To get the most out of the system you'll be downloading lots of games- especially if you get a Plus subscription; and Vita titles take up around 2-4 gbs each. I'm still using the 4 gb card that came bundled with my unit and I'm constantly managing data... I gotta upgrade to at least a 16 or 32 gb card sometime... Maybe when the prices drop a little more.

As far as the getting a Vita as a standalone console... Ehh, you'll be losing features like PS4 streaming and crossbuy titles but there isn't too much else that you'd miss out on.

It's all Bonesnapdeez's fault. He turned me on to the series....

Yes the Vita is a good system.

Personally, I've never used it to interface with a PS3 and I don't own a PS4.

PS3 and PS4 connectivity seem like pointless features to me. It's being advertised as a companion system, but that's nonsense.

I wouldn't call it pointless, just, underutilized so far.

I've actually been disappointed with the Vita library so far, especially considering all the hype over it when it was released. Every time I take a look at the Vita game section at my local EB, I just shake my head and wonder. Not only that, but compare the game library to that of the 3DS - it's no contest. The 3DS has an absolutely fantastic library of games, and if you're considering an 8th-gen handheld, that's the one I would recommend. Bravely Default, being released in February, is a game I'm particularly excited for.

While most retailers won't have everything for any system, I feel like the Vita has been one of the worst off in that regard.

A new Square Enix subpar RPG? Ehh, no thanks.

And yes, the 3DS will look better on the retail front. But consider that a lot of very good Vita games are not represented in retail stores. Some just aren't that common. Some are digital only. Also consider that the Vita is region free. That is huge for me. But obviously not for the average gamer.
My B/S/T thread! :)

See I think the Vita library is vastly better already than the 3DS library. I suppose it is a matter of taste, but I've spent far more time with my Vita over the past couple of years than I have with the 3DS and I have had them both about the same amount of time (the 3DS longer, iirc).
