Chapter 3 is Torneko; you go Ragnar, Alena, Torneko, and the Twins, before you get the hero's chapter. And yeah, Torneko's chapter really drags at the beginning, but once it gets going you get to have the feeling (if you know what you're doing) of getting yourself set up for the final chapter to get a boost once he joins the party.

What's to regret? That sounds great. If I had the focus to be able to do that, I would.
Bones, how is DQIV? I think the 3 story idea is cool... almost like 3 games that come together at the end... but not sure I'll like leveling up a hero/main character to suddenly switch to another low level character & start over. Work well or no?
As other people have stated, the game rules. Play it!

And number one is............. Phantasy Star?

Close...My favorite 8-bit, console, turn-based JRPGs are:

1. Dragon Warrior III
2. Dragon Warrior IV
3. Phantasy Star
4. Final Fantasy
5. Final Fantasy III
6. Final Fantasy II

That said, I have not yet played through Dragon Warrior or Dragon Warrior II. Based on my limited experience with each, however, I do not expect a play through to change my rankings. (I actually fired up Dragon Warrior on the GBC yesterday!) Also, I have only played through the "original' versions of Dragon Warrior IV, Phantasy Star, and Final Fantasy. I played through the GBC port of Dragon Warrior III, the DS port of Final Fantasy III, and the GBA port of Final Fantasy II. Accordingly, the fact I played through a port may color my opinion slightly. (With the exception of the DS port, however, these ports - to my knowledge - only add upgraded graphics, a quick-save feature, and some end-game content to each of the games.)

EDIT: On topic...I have the copper sword, leather armor, and leather shield in Dragon Warrior. I am grinding levels and coins to purchase the steel shield, chain mail, and steel axe. Once I get those, I will have to figure out where I am supposed to go... (You know...the hard part in these archaic 8-bit JRPGs...)

Well, the day FINALLY came! My package from Japan has FINALLY arrived! To keep things short/sweet, I got Tales of Rebirth JP PS2(complete), Tales of Symphonia JP PS2(complete), Tales of Destiny Directors Cut LE Premium Box set w/ game, illustration book, and special(to premium boxset only) Game Soundtrack disc. The Soundtrack came in a really cool plastic case w/ front/back inserts. I could post pics but not necessary. Finally I got Final Fantasy X-2 International+Last Mission. I have Tales of Destiny 2 JP PS2 game and Final Fantasy X International JP PS2 game coming from a friend of mine on a different forum, only reason I got X-2 international+last mission.

I know I have been updating this post with my progress in Dragon Quest VII for JP PSX but now that I have these games and more on their way, DQ VII will be put aside for awhile for these games but I will get back to it sometime/someday/eventually.

Tales of Destiny Directors Cut deserves a US release as its such a well done remake of the original Tales of Destiny. I am loving it so far(what little I have played) and the battle system has been upgraded and much more fun. For those of you who are graphic whores the game is leaps/bounds more beautiful/good looking over its predecessor. I honestly suggest any Tales of fans to check it out any way they can.

That is my current progress report and I will be more precise and to the point once I get all my packages in and once I decide on a game to start/stick with/play through to the end. I have a tendency to jump back and forth through games but I will not be doing that this time.

Thanks for hearing me out all and happy gaming to everyone and I can not wait to post my new progress report on whichever game I have started :D.

Good list. I even have a soft spot for Final Fantasy II.

I'd say that Mother (EarthBound Zero) is another must-play.

I can't believe you played the remake of FF III and ranked it that low on your list.

I thought the remake of the original DQ was really good. Primitive; but very much worth playing. DQ II can bite me. Don't play the NES version if you actually do decide to play it.

Speaking of 8-bit RPGs, I really need to try out Sweet Home one of these days.

Sweet Home is amazing. Famicom carts seem to be around $20 or so.

Dragon Quest VII and II are the only non-essential games in the series (I'm not even acknowledging X exists) - VII because of its obscene length and II because of its overall crappiness.

Chaos World is great. I've never played Radia War - Looks to be some sort of action-RPG like Ys. Might have to try this one out.

I beat DQII on the original hardware and consider it a badge of pride. But yeah, fuck the last portion of the game and all the horrid balance issues.
