Restarting is for whimps! Gotta take your lumps.noiseredux wrote:I restarted it 3 times and then decided I had to take a break. I got it down so that I could get to the transmitter thing with enough overwatch to keep me in check. But once you gotta flee in 8 turns I started getting overwhelmed by Chryssalids fast. normally I wouldn't have restarted, but my whole team was getting wrecked, and I felt like the mission was really interesting so I had this urge to "figure it out." That said, I couldn't manage. Once I was in retreat mode I'd get overwhelmed by Chryssalids. And the mission itself can take around an hour.Jmustang1968 wrote: Restarting is for whimps! Gotta take your lumps.
So sadly, 4/6ths of my team was killed. Poor Popo will not be the hero of this campaign, though she will be remembered.
This mission alone though just blew my mind. The added content in this game is incredible, and I haven't even gotten into tinkering with bio or mecha upgrades yet.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (on 360/PS3)
man, it's crazy how different EW is. I just got the EXALT stuff. Undercover troops and all. It's just nuts to me that EW could have just been some fresh maps/missions and it would of been cool, but it's really like a whole new game running on the original engine. 2K were friggin' busy the past year!
And I still feel the difficulty has ramped. This is def for dudes who have beaten EU. And even then. I put a good 100 hrs into EU, and I'm really not coasting through this one. I've already lost around 10 soldiers, though panic management is ok... I'm in danger of losing France right now though. I'm gonna really play this out as far as I can w/o re-starting my campaign just to see how far I can make it.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (on 360/PS3)
still obsessed. I ended up starting a 2nd game of EW. I was just getting trampled in my first game. I feel like I was on a serious losing streak, and my whole squad was getting murdered every mission to the point where it wasn't even fun. So I started fresh.
2nd game is going swimmingly. I'm towards the end of my third month. I've only lost one country's support, and only lost 2 (maybe 3?) soldiers. This means that I've got a really leveled-up group of say 7 or 8 guys right now. The only really rough casualty was Emma Ack. She was a really awesome Support (a redhead lady) who just got unlucky during an escort mission. I swear the Thinmen have been buffed for EW.
Mjmjr, Popo, Stark and Simple are killing it right now, though.
Everything about this expansion is great, BTW. New awesome maps. It's really exciting playing on unknown terrain. And new enemies!
Oh and EXALT are a bunch of jerks.

I almost bought XCOM for iPad ... I don't know what's wrong with me.

Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (on 360/PS3)
alright, so I finally have full satellite coverage - except over Russia who is the only country who pulled out. Now time to proceed w/ the campaign proper. All research is done up through the Arc Thrower. I've got nothing else to research now. And just waiting for the Alien Containment Facility to be built.
And then I can finally start dabbling with MELD and all that!
I think I'm starting to finally get the hang of the EXALT missions. I've lost very few soldiers this campaign. And it is rare that I'll restart a mission. This playthrough I think I only did so on my first EXALT mission where my whole squad got wiped out fast, and I felt like I HAD TO try that one again.
Ack & Sevin will be missed, though.
Best advice I've heard in a while:

Just picked up the PC version in the X-COM collection. 6 games for $10. So I'll give this a shot sometime!

took a little break w/ my Madden season for Thanksgiving. Figured, eh... maybe I'll get back to XCOM now. And yup. Sucked right back in to Within.
