I love how terrible 90% of the the US SMS box art was.
Who honestly thought that Black Belt was acceptable? I can understand that they couldn't use the Fist of the North Star imagery, but COME ON. An exploding foot? Not even attached to a body? It makes the original Mega Man box art look like it belongs in a museum.

My favorite is the Pro Wrestling one with the guy apparently choke-holding his own disembodied head.

The ones I own with terrible cover art:

Space Harrier
...and Wonderboy III is something indescribable.

Love the cover art for Altered Beast, R-Type, Galaxy Force (love the font designs), Zillion II, and Vigilante.

is that true? I didn't realize that. I always thought the idea was really smart. "Here's some games that are pretty small ROM's. So we'll give them to you on cheaper media."

Phantasy Star, Captain Silver, Ys, SpellCaster, and Golvellius also have decent "normal" NES-quality art.

But yeah, most of those covers are just puzzling.
