So basically you think any game set in the future is "ahead of its time"? Or did you mean something else when you used the phrase? Usually when that term is used in the context of gaming, it refers to some element of the gameplay or general design that would be adopted more broadly later by other games.Luke wrote:Whoa. Futuristic seems to be a synonym for ahead of its time.

Nah, the game seems like it could be from the future*, not of the future.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I get it now. Things that are set in the future are ahead of their time. And things set in the past are behind the times. Period pieces for instance are all behind the times.
I'm not really sure if Back To The Future is ahead or behind its time. Maybe both?

I think he means that the use of the sms' hardware limitations to create a much darker and foreboding tone overall was ahead of its time, kind of like what was done with survival horror games in the mid to late 1990s with limitations to control interface but also pre-rendered backgrounds forcing uncomfortable camera angles as well as saving systems.
At least, that's what I think he means. I could be wrong. I am quite behind the times.

I love how terrible 90% of the the US SMS box art was.
Who honestly thought that Black Belt was acceptable? I can understand that they couldn't use the Fist of the North Star imagery, but COME ON. An exploding foot? Not even attached to a body? It makes the original Mega Man box art look like it belongs in a museum.

My favorite is the Pro Wrestling one with the guy apparently choke-holding his own disembodied head.Nemoide wrote:I love how terrible 90% of the the US SMS box art was.
