I still feel we need two tables since there are enough differences. It's what they do over on the shmups forum: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=28730

Playing DC and CPS2 back to back today. Dunno, CPS2 feels much easier. It doesn't feel like slowdown, rather it feels like all the bullets are literally slower. Yet at times, there seems to be more of them and they come out faster (but travel slower). Despite everything being the same - it feels like a totally different game, to me.

I had 2 runs on cps2 today and probably 30 runs on DC this week and a couple more today. My 2 runs on cps2 were better than all 30 on DC.

You are making me want to own the CPS2 cart! maybe I could actually beat it lol.

Also, the stranger is called the broken secret ship for a reason, but I'm going to have to find out myself

With the secret ship's normal firepower being greater, you don't need to use bombs as often. The regular ships have better bombs, but they're limited in use. Besides, don't you get bonus points for not using bombs? Seems the 'stranger' has an unbalanced scoring potential advantage to me...

According to the strategy thread, it has a disadvantage:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=4749

It is the faster and most powerful plane in the game, actually it's too powerful: most of the time you will destroy enemies too early, and thus it's difficult to use for scoring purposes.

I wonder if this actually puts him at a disadvantage? The concern to rack up your multiplier is mostly in the first 3 stages (At least for me), and there are quite a few points in stages 1&2 where you don't need to shoot at all, and can still get a large amount of gold. (If you know an enemy is about to spawn that is good for reflecting, you can stop shooting and just tap dodge until he shows up. I have to do this with Ruby in some spots)

If you were able to get a decent multiplier going in the early stages with The Stranger, he would defintiely have an advantage to scoring where it matters, especially when it comes to speed-killing the later bosses (Which is where most of the score comes from).

Pointing this out more to discuss The Stranger and his scoring potential compared to Stuck, than to promote a seperate board.

That "disadvantage" certainly matter if you are going for a good score (100-200 trillion).
We are struggling for a 1/10th-1/20th of that score...

The advantages at our level of play is the fact that we are rolling through stage 5 and getting the decent EOS bonuses from stage 4+5. I still suspect that the strangers firepower is unbalancing because it'll allow for a much easier time NMNB the first 4 stages, and a faster kill time on the stage 5 boss.

i've yet to put these theories to test, speculation is purely based on research.

ARCADE

DocHauser - 16,696,555,570,780 - Stage 6 - Stuck - Shmupmame 4.2

Who needs the Stranger ship? :)

Was actually pretty close to beating the Stage 6 boss this time. Finding it easier to dodge between bullets while waiting for the shield to recharge in the arcade version compared to the DC version.

That is a damn fine score Doc. Do you remember your multiplier? Or, what your score was at the end of Stage 4 or 5? The score increases so exponentially that its hard to tell how far behind I am!

Does it seem like the bullets are going slower overall in the CPS2 board? I'm not noticing any slowdown in this one, in the style that I'm used to (Cave), so I'm wondering if the CPS2 slowdown with Giga Wing is almost constant? It would make sense as to why, even though they tried to slow stuff in the DC port to make up for it, that the games would consistenly feel different.

I think the multiplier must have been around 7 or 8 million. I reckon I was on about 9 trillion after the Stage 4 bonus was added and about 15 trillion after the Stage 5 bonus was added.

To be honest, I don't really notice much slowdown while I'm playing. I'd have to watch videos of the arcade and DC versions running side-by-side to see if there's much difference.
