We needed money so I robbed a liquor store. Bitch hesitated so I kicked the whore.

Also since you bring up Drake Luke I'm going to need you to look up that Ghostface blog and do some reading. I'm on my phone so I can't link it right now but it is hilarious and the guy that writes it absolutely hates Drake.

Apparently Drake is THE MOST liked rap artist when it comes to social circles...

I like Drake. Whatever.

I also like Magna Carta Holy Grail, but I know that's far from popular opinion. I also know I'm a huge Jay-Z fan so take it with a grain of salt.

Yella Wolf, I've not heard much of, but his verse on A$AP Rocky's "1Train" is great. Actually "1Train" is a brilliant brilliant song. Kind of a like a "Protect Ya Neck" posse cut - A$AP Mob with Danny Brown, Big Krit, Joey Bada$$, Kendrick, Yella, Action Bronson. So sick. You guys all need to hear that song.

Em's "Rap God" is one of the best singles of the year. That's like when OF dropped "Oldie"... i just keep watching the YT vid over and over.

Luke, I disagree with a lot of yr assessments of current hip hop, but I respect how much you care.

Rick Ross is overrated. But he does have some good cameos ("Monster," "John," "I'm On One," etc)

Speaking of old gangsta rap i'm interested to see how triple 6's new one is. Listened to a few and it sounds like old triple 6 mafia instead of three 6 mainstream mafia. I guess since juicy j is busy fucking miley cyrus and couldn't be in it

INTERESTING. I hated Last 2 Walk. But Most Known Unknowns was stellar.

I personally thought that song and vid was terrible. But, I certainly don't disrespect fans of it, just ain't my thing.

That was hilarious. Please tell me that is some sort of spoof like Turquoise Jeep and isn't meant to be taken seriously.

If it is a spoof, it is brilliant. If not, it is really, really terrible. As Ebert said "It doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel, nor the underside of the barrel. In fact it's an insult to barrels".

I like Drake because he tries. He reminds me a bit of Snoop as Drake is established, but still tries to do new things and not every Drake song sounds like a Drake song.

And yeah, we'll continue to disagree A LOT about rap music but we're both pretty opinionated and passionate about the genre. You are my Siskel to my Ebert. Or you can be Ebert and I'll be Siskel.

One thing that sucks is that the older you get, the less time you have to sail the seas of underground rap and hip hop to find budding artists. Even the "underground" artists I know of have been on MTV and VH1. You do have to actively seek out new joints, and it can be time consuming if you aren't simply following the billboard.

that's a pretty good parallel, yeah.

haha that's a good parallel too.

honestly, most new (to me) hip hop I discover is generally from (A) checking datpiff regularly to see what new mixtapes have come out. I mostly will just check for OFFICIAL ones and especially stuff that Datpiff FEATUREs. Or (B) pm/email/etc from buddies. I have quite a few dudes who throughout the year will just be like "dood, this mixtape/album is so youuuu." Or of course (C) one thing leads to another. I got really into Kendrick, who did a track with Rocky. I checked out Rocky and he had a track w/ Joey Bada$$. I downloaded Joey's mixtape....

crazy talk! that old memphis style isn't for everybody. lots of horror themes, down toned, heavy bass, tounge twisting, crunk with very little r&b sampling like mainstream stuff. they might have lost a step but i'll give them a break after 25 years.
