"I almost made it to Mechaturtle at the end of Level 3!"

How many movies has Beau Bridges been in over the years? That's superb acting right there

Yes, I watched the heck out of the tape. Yes, I was plugged in like everyone else was over SMB 3 and all the other games featured. Yes, it namedropped some subpar games (Dr. Chaos!) But admit it, we LOVED it. We ate it up.

Serious moment though:

Remember the scene when Jimmy is playing NINJA GAIDEN on a restaurant tabletop? What the heck kind of setup is that? Playchoice 10 without all the special features? That's one custom cab many arcade fans would love to have!

BTW, that isn't "F1 Dream" (racing arcade game) he was playing later in the movie. That was Top Speed (Taito), but the marquee reads F1 Dream, which was an overhead racing game by Capcom (both games were licensed by Romstar for the US)

Pump the brakes. RAD is a 10, THE WIZARD is a 4.

I'm genuinely baffled by this thread.

I'd probably give both Rad and The Wizard a 7 or 8.

I worded that wrong, lol. The wizard wasn't included in good 80's movies.

I don't really see why. Video game movies are quite often terrible, even when we have a soft spot for them. This group will be full of things like this, where we rip into a movie, even if we genuinely like it. I say go with the flow, laugh about it, and analyze why it works and why it doesn't. I've already given my thoughts on The Wizard. How about yours? What do you think of the way the games in it are marketed? Was it a good way to unveil Super Mario Bros. 3 in your opinion? And how does it fit in with both American culture at the time as well as video game culture?
