The kid finding the warp whistle was the biggest crap a movie ever took.

Fairly sure the Nostalgia Critic did a review that was pretty clever.

This seems unlikely. Do you mean to say the Nostalgia Critic did a review that featured funny voices and a bunch of his friends dressed up like silly characters?

Ack wrote:Look, let's face it: The Wizard is an awful piece of 1980s feel good cheese that banks entirely on blatant commercialism and characters that are almost cartoonish in their behavior, particularly the villains.

Then again, perhaps its also a perfect representation of the American 1980s social situation: inundated with advertising, in a world where all problems can be solved with no worries and in which the good guys always win in the end, with only a dash of sentimentality covering the fact that these people are likely incredibly sick or at least assholish.

I mean, let's face it, you have an autistic kid broken out of an institution by his brother, who team up with a runaway and a gambling trucker to win a video game tournament against a smarmy Aryan prick while evading a slimy bounty hunter hired by an awful nouveau riche mother who really doesn't give a shit about her children beyond the one mentally ill boy. These people suck.
You're crapping all over my childhood. :(

so I'm guessing from some of these comments a lot of you don't plan to watch it this month. :(

Was hoping to hear fresh feedback. Y'know "Last time I watched it was when I was a kid, this time I'm 30 and now I think....." or "I watched it 15 years ago, and liked it a lot but this time I noticed..." Like I said in the OP, some times even bad stuff seems better when sharing with friends.

(I'm also seriously surprised at the hate I'm seeing here. Funny, as I solely picked this one for the first month because I thought so many of you were fans...)

Actually, and this may surprise you after my description, but I don't hate the film at all. I think it's bizarre in its plot, horrible in its pacing, and blatantly obvious in its overt commercialization, but it's like a crystalization of its time period and a perfect representative example of society. I see it, and I can't help but think about how culture has shaped and evolved, so even if I think it's terrible at some things, it really helps me focus on how our culture has changed/stayed the same in the last 25 years.

I thought The Wizard was kind of cute when I saw it for the first time two years ago. Cheesy as hell, maybe, but still cute.
