1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die

I'm sure some here are familiar with this book, I have just spent the last 2 days putting all the books entries into a list so you can mark off how many games in the book you have played. Have fun.

I'm rather impressed by how eclectic that list of games is. Lot of nice hidden gems and overlooked games on there, as well as the typical mainstream or well known titles

awesome. I've had the book for a couple of years, and it's a great "pick up and open to a random page" kind of resource. I read it cover to cover when it first came out too. This list is awesome - I'll def keep a checklist.

I saw the book and found it, well, trite. It was not particularly well-written, not particularly insightful and most of the games are just...decent or good and some of them are just bad. It's like they took a list of popular or well-known games and put them into a book, there's no critical outlook into them.

TL;DR: I look foward to dying without having played Kingdom Hearts and Peggle.

I actually thought when looking at the list that it should be called 1001 games you should know about, just to be an educated gamer. There are definitely some games on there I don't like or have no interest in playing, but there's still value I think in knowing about them at least

I basically agree. The book is a fun casual read and nothing more.

And some of the picks are just weird - the sports games really jumped out at me. Do we need the original Madden and Madden 10 on the list? No Bases Loaded or Baseball Stars but MLB 09: The Show?! NHL 10 instead of NHL '94?

there would never be such a list that everyone would agree on. But as a nice coffee table book with good screenshots, it's an enjoyable read.

I thought the list of games was generally pretty decent up until about 2005, then there were far too much contemporary games that really didn't deserve the place on the list imo. It's still an enjoyable read though.
