^that's true. Apple II, right?
I've always found the history of the series very interesting. I mean, the yearly upgrades kind of means that you can go to (almost) any year since what? 1991? And you can take a snapshot of "what did video game football look like this year?"
Here's a documentary that G4 shot in 2002:
I also got to thinking - as someone who appreciates the sport, but is barely a casual fan of watching/following the NFL - do you guys who are followers feel that Madden will be more remembered for his contributions to the game, or the video games?
Obviously from where I sit I assume it would be the latter. But like I said, I'm out of the loop.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's pretty hard to say, really. He was probably the most loved color commentator of any era, one of the best coaches in NFL history (a HOFer), and obviously has the video game thing. I'd guess in the end (e.g. 50 years from now when few people remember his work in the booth and EA is a fledgling subsidiarity of Rovio making "Angry Birds NFL Football 2063"), his bust will still be in Canton and the majority of football fans will know who he is moreso than most video game players would. I'd actually be surprised if the "Madden" name makes it another 10 years, but time will tell. It may end when he dies.noiseredux wrote: do you guys who are followers feel that Madden will be more remembered for his contributions to the game, or the video games?

from a non-NFL fan, yeah. I know him as "the guy on Madden games" first. And aware of him as a commentator. But never knew him as a player. Which is why I was asking.dsheinem wrote: It's pretty hard to say, really. As far as basketball goes, 2K has the shit on lock. I commend EA for trying. And I'll prob get the new Live just to see what's up. But eh.
EA seems to have NHL and NFL down, though. No?
From what I understand, baseball is pretty much The Show - which I'm not aware of who publishes that. And I pay less attention to other sports.

I believe EA is the only company with the rights to use actual NFL teams/players.
It's a bummer how certain companies have a "lock" on specific sports games. I like how diverse things were back in the day.

Admittedly though the number of games for individual players or coaches was pretty ridiculous. I mean, who here really enjoyed a few rounds in Emmitt Smith Football followed by Troy Aikman NFL Football, Sterling Sharpe: End 2 End, and Prime Time NFL with Deon Sanders?BoneSnapDeez wrote:I believe EA is the only company with the rights to use actual NFL teams/players.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'd rather have oversaturation than nothing but Madden.
Another thought...
Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective is an early FMV game released on CD-ROM for a whole bunch of systems like Sega CD, Turbo CD, IBM PC, Mac, Commodore CDTV, and Tandy Memorex Visual Information System.
"Consulting Detective" can be abbreviated to the acronym "CD."
Coincidence?

Probably intentional, like the Bonk/Zonk games in Japan:BoneSnapDeez wrote: Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective is an early FMV game released on CD-ROM for a whole bunch of systems like Sega CD, Turbo CD, IBM PC, Mac, Commodore CDTV, and Tandy Memorex Visual Information System.

PC Genjin (Pithecanthropus Computerurus) aka PC Kid - Sounds like PC Engine - Bonk's Adventure in US.
PC Denjin aka Punkic Cyborgs - Still sounds like PC Engine - Air Zonk is US.
I'm sure there are other games that do an acronym with CD or something else related to the system they're on to be amusing like that. Of course the Famicom version of Xanadu is Faxanadu.

Speaking of Falcom, one of my long-term collecting goals is to obtain at least one port/variation of every Falcom-developed RPG (with the exception of Panorama Toh). It's not gonna be easy...

Yes. It's a digital port of an 1981 board game of the same name (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2511 ... -detective) and it's word-by-word Holmes' occupation.BoneSnapDeez wrote:"Consulting Detective" can be abbreviated to the acronym "CD."

The new edition has been released in Spanish and I think I'll get it because it seems pretty damn great.
