Which is better s video modded genesis or 32x?

I am going to be getting one or the other. Would the video degrade going through the 32x still?

In order for the 32X to work, RGB video has to be passed from the Genesis into the 32X, and then the 32X does its additional processing before putting the picture out to your TV. Because of this, you can't use a 32X on an S-video modded Genesis, at least not if you expect to get S-Video out of it.

You could possibly s-video mod the 32X itself instead of the Genesis. This would still pass the video through, so you'd be able to play regular Genesis games in s-video as well provided you kept the 32X hooked up. Not sure how difficult s-video modding a 32X is though.

Only thing I can think of for this would be if the 32X has a higher quality circuit for converting the RGB to composite or something. I would imagine whether it looks any better would depend on what model of Genesis you're using, as some had better video out than others.

If you're using RGB out though, I doubt you'd notice much of any difference at all.

All Genesises have pretty bad composite video, but some models just have HORRIBLE composite. With these models, using a 32X will give you a better composite image. The reason being, like AQ said, the Genesis passes it's RGB signal into the 32X, and then the 32X encodes the RGB into composite (or S-Video if you modify it). The 32X's video encoder has a cleaner composite video output.

This is kinda a hard question though. If the question is will an S-Video modified Genesis look better than a 32X with composite cables, then the answer is the Genesis will look better. You could also mod the 32X for S-Video, it's just not as well documented on the net as the Genesis S-Video mods are. Or, you could output RGB from the 32X or Genesis and get an external unit that will convert the RGB to YPbPr (component). Depending on the quality of the external unit, that has the potential to give you the best image out of all the options mentioned.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I am going to either get my Genesis model 1 modded for s video or buy a 32x that has already been modded for s video. I feel like the modded 32x will still have a worse picture than s video right through the genesis since it is more going through more cords and sources but am not sure.

Unless you wanna actually play 32X games, then just get your Genesis modified for S-Video and be done.
