Whats Your Worst Black Friday Experience?

Post by oxymoron »

Today I had my worst BF experience ever. I went to Walmart at around 6:30 which was 30 after they had opened. Yes, It would have been a better idea to get their 20 or 30 min prior to opening then after but it is Thanksgiving and family comes first. Anyways, I get there and find out that they've changed it up this year. In order to prevent mass mobs and people getting trampled, they only let "X" amount of people in at a time. I wan't too happy about this but I understood that it was for the better. I stood outside for about 45 min. When I got inside I found out that they had applied the same anti-mob concept to the 'door buster' merch. Everything was held behind the counter in order to insure that everyone or at least the maximum amount of people could get what they came for. So after standing in line for 45 min outside, you had to stand in one more line for 1 hr to get what you wanted. Again, I wan't too happy about this but I understood that it was for the better. People like myself, who came a little late, stood a chance at getting something. While this method is nothing new, I personally have never went through it before.

Now here's were the problem started. My local Walmart has 2 counters in the electronics department. They used one for games and one for tablets. That's all fine and dandy but no one, not even the damn employees knew which line lead to what. Tons of people, including myself, stood in the wrong line for close to an hour only to find out we were shit out of luck. The 2nd problem was no one ever announced if something was sold out or not. Even if you were lucky enough to get into the right line there was no guarantee you'd get what you wanted. A bunch for people that what waited in line for GTA 5 found out the it had been sold out "X" min ago. I was quite fed up ATM and used the "If i'm loud and angry, I'll get what I want" card with the manager. I hate doing as I don't like making a scene that but it was a last resort. It ended up working out for me but many people just walked off empty handed.

I understand and somewhat like the new format and in retrospect it should work but it dosn't. They really need to learn how to apply it in real life. Needless to say, I will NOT be going to another Walmart BF ever again.

What's your worst BF experience?

Are we talking about today or last night? in which case the thread might more accurately be "worst thanksgiving experience?" And I'm going to assume that some guy working as manager for an electronics department at Wal-Mart being screamed at for having sold out of something and not telling every customer in advance or having to deal with customers getting angry because they got in the wrong line had a worse experience than you.

(And I don't get it, if they were sold out, how could it "work?" Did they have a ton of GTA5 copies hidden somewhere just to give to loud angry people?)

I've never been to a black Friday sale. It sounds like a horrible experience for both the employees and customers. All to save a few bucks that could probably have been saved shopping online. I can't even imagine what a Walmart looks like on black Friday. I can only imagine it looks like a huge grown up Garbage Pail Kids brawl, no thanks.

EDIT: Yep, it looks just as I imagined. Haha! These things should be outlawed or strictly regulated solely due to the amount of violence. http://kotaku.com/the-chaos-and-carnage ... 1473472104

So, you ranted at a guy to get like $10 off a game and you had the bad time? My condolences.

If anything I just buy online. Not worth going to retail stores on Black Friday.

So far it has been a very good black week sale. Haven't left the house and have gotten some amazing deals. Probably my favorite pick ups were Death Smiles Limited Edition for $13 shipped, Creative Fatal1ty headset for $20 shipped, Elder Scrolls Anthology set for $25 shipped, and BF4 for $25. Plus steam has been abusing the hell out of my wallet will all the great $10 or less games. Still 3-4 days worth of sales to come as well :).

Walmart < Amazon

GTA V

Amazon= $35 thousands in stock, instant payment, free shipping, no hassle(almost bought it was an hour long sale around noon yesterday)

Walmart= $30 few hundred in stock guaranteed in stock but only for 1 hour, loud angry mobs, hour plus lines, and they run out of stock unless you show up an hour plus early to wait around :P.

Your Walmart didn't handle things right at all. When I worked Black Friday last year everyone was allowed in at the same time, there were no lines, and it was announced whenever something sold out. And for a lot of things we over-ordered so they didn't run out until Saturday.

Shopping on Black Friday, as well as shopping at Wal-Mart in general, is guaranteed to be a miserable experience.

I must live in a nicer area than some of you. This year was probably one of the nicest Black Friday experiences I've ever had. There was no clawing or crushed toes, people closest to the stuff were handing back specific items to strangers behind them, people didn't descend upon the pallets of items like ravenous animals when the plastic was removed and everyone who bummed into me apologized. We were in and out of Wal-Mart in less than an hour and the only thing I didn't get was a movie that I'm almost certain they didn't have to begin with.
