Blasphemy! It's a great game. Especially given the age/hardware.

It always felt like the "true" sequel to Super Mario Bros. to me, as we never got the Lost Levels (well, at least not initially).
I love Mario Land. And while I think SML2 is superior in many ways TECHNICALLY, I far prefer to play the original. Love the music, love the worlds, love the enemies. It's a total comfort game for me that I've beaten dozens of times.

Super Mario Land 2 is a HUGE improvement. But SML 1 was a still a great game when it came out, and fun to play today still (albeit a bit short).

Why did they stop at SML 2? Especially after how fantastic #2 was? Yeah, they made Wario Land, but I don't see why that would mean they couldn't continue both series.
Until NSMB, as soon as the N64 hit Nintendo wanted to use 3D gameplay for Mario as much as possible. That's my guess.

I was playing this for the first time the weekend. Im not sure if i would called crappy but the controls feel a bit weird, but is a solid mario game and is fun. I'll try it to beat this weekend again.

The Adventures of Lolo was the first puzzle game I ever played. I completed it many, many years ago. The sequel brings 50 more rooms of some of the most twisted puzzles one could come up with, many of them harder than the first installment. I am proud of the fact that out of all of those, I only needed to consult a walkthrough for less than 5 of the levels. The final boss battle is laughably easy, but the puzzles sure weren't. I will be attempting Lolo 3 next!

3 new updates, and I've FINALLY hit 50 games beaten this year. This time during the last 3 years or so I was at around 65-70 :( . So much for my goal of 75+ this year!

Crash Team Racing was a reasonably fun racing game. The courses are fun enough, although a lot of them are a bit forgettable. The difficulty is reasonable and there's a lot to do beyond the basic story races. The game reminds me a lot of Diddy Kong Racing with it's adventure mode, but overall it's just a weaker game. The Crash characters are generally ugly, unmemorable and not very likeable at all, the physics don't feel quite right compared to DKR or Mario Kart 64 and the game just isn't quite as entertaining overall. There's also a really bizarre focus on weaponry that drops behind you, with about 60% or more of the weaponry doing so, meaning it's a lot harder to attack people in front. It offers something a bit different, but I'm not sure I like it. Overall, it's quite fun, and I'd recommend it at the low prices it goes for, but it's no match for the popular N64 racers in my eyes.

Power Stone is a game that made me face an unfortunate truth - I just don't like Capcom fighting games. I know Power Stone isn't your typical fighter, but it's not alone in forming my assessment. I'm also not a fan of Street Fighter, and I'm not that into the Vs. games either. They all just feel a bit basic and clunky to me - even the more modern ones like Street Fighter IV. Anyway, this game was decent enough, it is fairly fast paced, and I enjoyed the selection of weaponry, although it seems disppointingly narrow, and only the guns seem worth using. The fighting mechanics are OK, I like interacting with the scenery, but I feel too much focus is on grabbing the power stones at the expense of proper fighting. Finally, being 1 on 1, the fighting system just seems a little too limited to be fun for long.

I was hoping Power Stone 2 would address a lot of these issues - being 4 player should mean it's a lot of chaotic fun, there's a much broader weapon selection, and it seemed like Power Stone transformations were a little weaker. In fact, I think I preferred the first. Maybe it was just my character selections, but my range of attacks actually seemed worse in the second game than the first, and the broader weapon selection didn't feel like it made up for that. 4 player was nice, but every time a match started there was always a nagging feeling in the back of my head: 'I could be playing Smash Bros'.

Next Up: I've just picked up Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles for PSP, so I've been workign through that. I REAAAAALLLY need to get back to Final Fantasy VII too, and get that finished before the year is out. I've also got a selection of GB, GBA, PC and DS games that I'd like to get to too, so who knows what I'll get to before the year is out.

*New - Tearaway - New*

Tearaway is a pretty solid platformer that I enjoyed playing. However, in a year that featured a ton of great platform games, Tearaway feels a bit underwhelming by comparison. On the plus side, the gameplay stays fresh throughout as the designers keep finding new ways to use the Vita's hardware features within the game. Also, combat with enemies is pretty fun as you can use the environment in a lot of fun ways again the enemy. The game also features a very epic and long chase sequence. The parts of the game with traditional platform based gameplay are pretty solid as well. Also, the jump and movement mechanics are waaaay better than the sloppy garbage in Little Big Planet.

On the negative side though, the story is rather bland and boring even though the characters are fairly charming. Also, Tearaway feels a bit too gimmicky at times. The designers obsession with using EVERY SINGLE FEATURE OF THE VITA makes some parts of the game awkward as they shoehorn in Vita features. I got thoroughly sick of using the tilt feature towards the end of the game while also having to control my onscreen character with the analog and jump buttons. Also, Tearaway is too obsessive about picture taking and arts and crafts. Every five minutes you have to take a picture of yourself or draw a picture or decorate a character or cut out shapes from colored paper with a scissor. It all gets kind of annoying after a while. Media Molecule seems unable to make a simple video game. There's always a bunch of extra-curricular stuff they have to cram in. With Little Big Planet it was this obsession with community and player created content. I don't care about all this extra crap, just give me an awesome platform game!

Also, for a game that strives so hard to keep gameplay fresh by using all these Vita features, you'd think they'd jump at the chance to incorporate this stuff into some cool boss fights, but the game doesn't have any bosses at all.

It's still a solid, fun title though, but in a year with games like Puppeteer, Sly Thieves in Time, Ratchet and Clank Into the Nexus, Rayman Legends, and lots of other great stuff, Tearaway kind of underwhelms. This wasn't the right year to release this game. Puppeteer is waay better

I liked it well enough. It's not up to par with the first two games, but it's enjoyable overall.

I'm hoping to find a good B2G1 sale on new games to snag the new Zelda, Tearaway, and Ys sometime in the next week or so. I'm pretty sure that Puppeteer will be a free or cheap (less than $10) PS+ game by the summer, if not before.
