Doesn't anyone else think it's crazy that Xbox Live accounts are being banned for swearing?!

If it is in video for general/public audiences amd breaks agreed TOS to use such services? No.

If you watched the linked video, it was specified that Xbox does not want you to cuss, ever. And if you do, it's an automatic account ban.

Swearing on Xbox is verboten in some contexts and not others. Like life.

I can use any of my laptops to play games online and upload stupid videos to youtube with swears in them. Pretty sure Acer and Asus and Lenovo don't get in trouble when I do that. They don't own me, my content, or have any control over access to the internet service that I subscribe to.

If Microsoft doesn't want any swears being uploaded via their console, they should pack their bags like little crybabies and go home. People will do what they will via the devices that they buy -- natural selection will take care of those that use their equipment like morons.

While I think it is a bit ridiculous, they do control over access to your Live service and video sharing capabilities. It is mostly there to protect children and such. The other games are marked and rated, the online vids are not.

I don't use Xbox, but I think a flat out ban on swearing is fine. Miiverse is heavily moderated and as such, a relaxing and great place to just browse and post drawings and random thoughts. I can't imagine ever using it if there was the usual Internet garbage. You can very easily write and speak in public without resorting to swearing.

I swear all the time at home, but I am not rude or lazy enough to do it in public.

PS: I have no doubt that all communications using the Xbox live service are stored. Note that the MS statement only says the policy team does not monitor private calls.

I agree, it's all a bit silly, frankly.

If they want to prevent all the cussing on Live, more power to them -- I remember what that was like. On videos uploaded to places like Youtube though? It's a pretty big stretch.
