it's pretty hard not to draw a parallel. You're asking how we should pick games to play as a community. And you decided to call the club Together RPG. How can you not see the similarities?

At any rate, again, I think you're blowing it out of proportion. Again - I was poking fun at the ridiculous process we all just went through. It seems pretty obvious to me. I don't see how that's 'drama.'

If you don't want to do Zelda, how about Final Fantasy Adventure? Why can't Together RPG have Action RPG's and FPS RPG's and other sub-genres? It would be kind of much to have a Together RPG, a Together Action RPG and a Together FPS RPG club wouldn't it?
We have a action rpg genre. We are currently on one - Crystalis.

While yes this is similar to TR, you also know what you were doing as well. It was ridiculous, and can stay there. I was calling for ideas on if we should just go woth games that got 2nd place votes in the previous cycle or new selections. I know some were expressing interest in a dungeon crawler.

so it's a problem to make a joke from one thread in another? Got it.

No jokes are fine, but it was going to derail actual progress and discussion I wanted to make on this.

So back on target...

Who wants to go with a dungeon crawler next?
Should we go with same order of genres and go with games that had 2nd place votes?
Should we throw up new recommendations on games and revote?

John, since you already have the subgenres figured and a shortlist of games, why not just rename it "John's RPG Club"?

I'm half kidding - but I do like your idea about outliers. Maybe a incorporate few months for "outlier" RPGs like COD, MULE, Ys, and Spirit Tracks?

you know that if you hadn't responded to the original joke it would have remained just a single post, right?

ANYWAY - I thought FFXI was an interesting idea, but you're against that one as well. Do you have like a master list of ones you are considering or are OK with that people can pick from? Are you just basically trying to keep it pretty straight-forward J-RPG and W-RPG? (I'm guessing you don't want another A-RPG having come off Crystalis, or S-RPG having done Shining Force 2 recently).

As far as Dungeon Crawler, can you help define that a bit? I know stuff like Shin Megami Tensei is considered a Dungeon Crawler, right? Is Rogue a Dungeon Crawler, or am I confusing?

I think of Zelda games as dungeon crawlers. Usually there are 8 or so of them in most Zelda games.

I wouldn't say my list is short. It is very expansive and has thousands of possibilities.

Ys series is most definitely an rpg. All but 1 Zelda game are not rpgs. It is an rpg club.

Zelda is not a dungeon crawler.

Ypu are more on target with the SMT or legend of grimrock, wizardry etc..

If we followed the same order Noise, SRPG would be up again I believe. Shining force 2 was our first game.

Ok, I think I get it.

Sounds like:

Game 1 - Ys or Castle of the Winds
Game 2 - Zelda II or COD
Game 3 - Deus Ex or Spirit Tracks
Game 4 - FFXI or WOW

Seems like polls would be the way to go to finalize things, though.

same order? So you are limiting it to a cycle of the same handful of sub-genres then?

Alright so what is the order then? At least SRPG is a sub-genre I enjoy a lot.

Are you aiming solely for retro? There's Shadowrun Returns I'm dying to play. I don't know if you'd call it an SRPG or just a Tactical game though.
