I'll 2nd this. I was one of the guys who really wanted DE to make it to TR.
Cool - this way it can make it into a "Together" thread and everyone will be happy.

I'd also strongly suggest you consider some of the other RPGs that were left out of the main TR voting. My votes would be for:

Deus Ex
Final Fantasy XI
World of Warcraft
Castle of the Wind
Ultima Online
Might and Magic Book One
Shadowrun
MULE
Homeworld

Some or all of these would be great for next year
Wrong groups. Only ones that can make it in here are Shadowrun, M&M, and Castle of the Wind.

SRPG
JRPG
Western RPG
Action RPG

Hmm...I think these still make good overarching themes, I just wonder where we might fit in a dungeon crawler. You know, something like Arcana or the early MegaTen games versus Wizardry, Might & Magic, or even Grimrock.
Dungeon crawlers fit into the WRPG to me. But inwouldnt be opposed to doing a dungeon crawler if we have the support for it.

Why? Certainly the club hasn't explored the full range of "RPG". You should play Deus Ex if nothing else since so many were interested and it is considered an RPG (if a hybrid). You might even play a Zelda game if only to spark an interesting debate about what constitutes an RPG. Why limit it arbitrarily, especially when you've already hit one set of subgenres?

"vengeful"?

That's pretty dramatic.

I don't think it's vengeful to poke fun at the ridiculousness that was this year's TR nomination process. Nor to push for a game I pushed for there (DE). Nor to point out that it's not uncommon, be it TR, SOTM, whatever, for folks who don't participate to have strong criticisms.

Anyway, to stay on topic - Shadowrun, Deus Ex and any Zelda is a +1 from me.

Maybe spiteful is better? It just seems senseless to purposefully bring over the TR drama here when there was none.

Zelda isn't an RPG. I don't think Deus Ex is either. You guys can make an action/adventure together group for those.

You don't think there should at least be a vote? I'd probably consider trying a more "obscure" Zelda like Spirit Tracks if I knew that folks were playing it in a club like this. We don't need a club for every genre, and there's certainly enough RPG elements in all the games that we've mentioned to suggest they could be openly debated/voted on/considered.

Nope. Zelda II can make it. Bit this is an rpg group, not a catch-all for Dave to throw any non shmup into for consideration.

I don't understand why Zelda Ii would be ok but WoW or DE wouldn't.

Zelda II is an action rpg. I don't consider Deus Ex to be an RPG. Why not throw in COD, it has a levelling system?

WoW is an rpg and is a great game. I don't think you can capture or get value from MMOs in a together rpg format. You know what together MMORPG is? It is called a guild. These games are made to be played for the long haul.

As the person who started this, I feel I have reaerved the ability to make certain scope judgment calls to draw the line somewhere and keep things on track. We have so many true RPG options that we don't need to resort jumping to hybrids with rpg-lite mechanics.

it's pretty hard not to draw a parallel. You're asking how we should pick games to play as a community. And you decided to call the club Together RPG. How can you not see the similarities?

At any rate, again, I think you're blowing it out of proportion. Again - I was poking fun at the ridiculous process we all just went through. It seems pretty obvious to me. I don't see how that's 'drama.'

If you don't want to do Zelda, how about Final Fantasy Adventure? Why can't Together RPG have Action RPG's and FPS RPG's and other sub-genres? It would be kind of much to have a Together RPG, a Together Action RPG and a Together FPS RPG club wouldn't it?
