They wanted to attract attention of the consumers for the better graphics (Compare Soul Calibur to MGS for example ) , the online gameplay, and the low price. I think it was kind of a bet, either we hook them all or lose them all. People decided to wait for the ps2 and their DVD drives...
I still wonder if they had waited a year or 2 more , added a DVD drive and upped the specs to be on par with ps2.

Sega couldn't afford to wait an extra two years. The only real income they had coming in after the Saturn died was whatever they got from arcade and Pachinko machines, plus the hole they'd have left in the market by sitting out for two years would have been filled by someone else before they returned.

Aww, why did the photoshopper have to squash the box image to fit it in there? :P

*insert Virtual Boy joke here*

In all seriousness though, virtual reality sounds awesome. I don't the technology will be there yet for a few years, unfortunately.

But let's be honest: who wouldn't want to, not just play, but BE Link/Mario/Kratos/Tiptup Turtle/what have you?

Be very alarmed - an explosion is imminent.

Smaller case and smaller heatsink than the XB1. Wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 is a bit loud in comparison. But hopefully nowhere near fat PS3 levels. That thing sounded like a jet in my room.

Everyone who complains about loud electronics has never owned a Dreamcast.
