If you don't already have a method sorted for having your posters printed, allow me to quote myself from another thread:

Can't beat the price for the 18x24 posters at $2.97 each. 8)
Just make sure you have a nice hi-res (300 dpi) scan of your image to print.
I was only really after hi-res scans of shmups posters in my search so I'm afraid that's all I can link you to:
http://www.sk8tokyo.com/shmup/posters.htm

http://www.world-of-arcades.net/index.htm
(for this one, go into the game section of your choice and check out the " Promotion Material" sections)

Oh! I just had an idea!
The images over on The Cover Project are actually 300dpi. You could probably just crop the part you want to use and blow it up to an 18x24 print and I suspect it would actually look pretty good.

I do apologise for resurrecting this. I was looking for poster art when I came upon the thread.

It's a few years, and maybe the OP isn't interested anymore, but I found this very hi-res Metal Slug art (5021 × 3544) so thought it might be useful. If not for the OP, the perhaps for someone else.

I made an account just to do this. All the best.
