You know honestly I don't think I've ever actually properly listened to them.
Actually I can't listen to any music on my computer right now, at least not pleasantly. My headphones broke on me and I don't have any external speakers.
Left-side-only mono isn't fun.

I still don't understand why you can find so many websites that cover black metal and give reviews for even the most random bedroom bands, but I can find only one still active website dedicated to power metal, and its in German. The closest I can find to anything covering traditional metal are things like Revolver and Blabbermouth, which also cover a lot of shitty unrelated bands.

Despite its image of inaccessibility I suspect that black metal is more popular than power metal.
Also, the black metal scene is flooded with bands - given how comparatively "easy" it is to play and record compared to other genres of metal/music.

Yeah, I'd agree with this, along with how it's often nowadays the stereotype. Quite a few people I know think of metal as solely death and black metal(though they don't necessarily realize that "black" is the name of black metal and instead think all of it is death metal).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Despite its image of inaccessibility I suspect that black metal is more popular than power metal.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
That was my line of thinking. I commonly get people stating that Power metal or traditional metal is covered and more mainstream, but I see a hell of a lot more info on black metal than any other form. Its aggravating when one isn't a fan of it, as I can't find things on the stuff I like.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Despite its image of inaccessibility I suspect that black metal is more popular than power metal.

Doom fares a bit better with sites like Doomantia and The Obelisk, but a lot of the sites mostly cover stoner rock/metal and only occasionally touch on doom.
And what Ack said too, as I know many people who don't consider traditional metal or power metal to be metal, they see it as a form of rock. I know a lot of people who like Iron Maiden but don't understand when I say something about them being a metal band.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
I'm just pointing out that it is a thing- hate to bring it up again, but the stereotype about metal now is centered on black and death metal. Everyone thinks that metal is wearing corpsepaint and an inverted cross while screaming(note that I do not say growling/screeching) about Satan and killing people.
Essentially, Harsh Vocals=Metal, Clean Vocals=Rock to most nowadays.
