Re: What, in your opinion, is the best game news/journal sit
I go to Giant Bomb and PCGamer for my reviews. For news, I hop around a lot, and usually just read through r/games on Reddit since a lot of the most important news gets filtered through on there. TotalBiscuit does a show on YouTube called Content Patch which I'll listen to in the Morning to for his opinion and dissection on news since I really enjoy and tend agree with his opinion on a lot of things. Bombin' the AM by Giant Bomb is also good for that.
Older. Not wiser.

Most mainstream gaming sites are filled with fluff and PR hype pieces. I find that this website plus regular visits to HG101 and GameFAQs keeps me up to date with current and retro games. I do occasionally visit more niche websites too like RPGamer, RPGFan, and the websites of developers I like (Falcom, etc).

This is basically what I do, along with lurking GAF.
Anything new that's of interest me will eventually reach my attention one way or another I find, and I don't ever really feel "out of the loop" or anything like that.

Web forums like this function like news aggregators in a way, I suppose.

Out of the bigger websites, I tend to visit Polygon and USGamer the most. Polygon generally does very comprehensive reviews, and I like the feature based approach of USGamer.
I used to like IGN back in the day, but their focus on games has been continuously diminishing. That's not to mention their credibility. A lot more pretty faces replacing the people really passionate about gaming. Also I seen one of their current senior editors posting multiple times on the Playstation blog; that was a little too sketchy for me.

Yeah, they were pretty good in the mid '00s. I'm not sure why or how but the quality rapidly dropped after '08 or so.
They were also really good for DVD and Blu-Ray reviews, something that sadly few sites do anymore.

Reviews wise I don't have a go to, but for general news I usually use Neoseeker. It isn't necessarily the best by any means, but it hits the major news points and skims over most small things. (IE, it doesn't have an article each time somebody starts a new kickstarter.)

If you're looking for reviews that focus more on technical aspects (a/v quality, etc) the Digital Bits is really good for that. Blu-Ray.com is nice too.
