Turok has a great single player
Turok 2 has a decent single player but great multiplayer
Turok Rage Wars is soso all around - the single player is the multiplayer (think Quake 3/UT style of game)
If I was going to choose only one, 2 would be it. Not only is it fairly cheap. Multiplayer is quite enjoyable, I mean who doesnt like the cerebral bore

Turok is awesome.
Not a lot of people played Turok 3 (not Rage Wars, though it was the 3rd game in the series).
The game i'm talking about is Turok 3 : Shadow of Oblivion. It is really fantastic. Probably one of the best and most over-looked shooters on N64.

If I were to get Turok games again I'd have to go with 1 and 3, and maybe the others afterwards. Seriously check out Turok Shadow of Oblivion though. It's amazing.

Yeah Turok was awesome in it's day. The control scheme of the first game will take some time to get used to. It's like southpaw on Halo or something. You move with the C buttons and use the analogue stick for aiming. It takes about 30 mins before you are truly comfortable with it, but after a while it's second nature.
Just don't play any Goldeneye straight after because you won't be able to play it for a while until you get used to the controls again hehe!

guys..... i guess i'm the hater. I got turok 2 seeds of evil boxed complete never opened from a mom and pop shop here in philly for 7 bucks. They had like 5 of them. Brought it home really hoping for something special. A hidden gem to compliment perfect dark and goldeneye.
i kinda thought turok was unplayable... I never get a sense of space in the game and could never seem to manage to be in the right place at the right time. I thought the shooting mechanics were awful. I don't know.... with so much love on this thread maybe i should give it another shot.

You know I forgot all about Turok 3. Yeah go for that one if you can find it. The gameboy colour side story isnt bad either - fairly difficult to boot.
The reverse southpaw is quite amusing. It makes sense on the single joystick, but if I remember correctly, Legacy controls are supported - the only way to play.

Re: turok 64
I have Turok Rage Wars and Turok 2. I actually haven't finished Turok 2, just saw a mint copy on eBay for $5 so snatched it up.
I remember going to a friend's party years ago and everyone being obsessed about 4 player Rage Wars. It's perhaps not that good now, and definetly feels a little slow compared it Perfect Dark. Still quite a good game if you are keen on the mutliplayer style of play. I wrote some more stuff here.
Turok 2 is also quite good I think, great for a single player experience. Some interesting uses of N64 tech as well. The wonky controls are perhaps the biggest issue with the game. Not sure if it is my N64 pad or the game though.

I remember actually reading about that being the way Turok controls, and shortly afterwards I started using the same controls on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, control scheme 1.2. Speaking from the perspective of a PC gamer it was a vast improvement over the analog = move scheme, as now I felt like I had this great control over my view. It did take a bit of itme to get used to, but now it's essential. Plus, it makes headshots much easier to get in a fast paced environment.

It has it's advantages but it's like playing mouse and keyboard style with your mouse in your left hand (if you are right handed) and vice-versa. It's disorientating at first but you get used to it though.
I thought the first two Turok games were good, the second is better technically but the first one just seems to play better for some reason. I preferred the open environments of the first compared to the claustrophobic environments of 2, I found it too easy to get lost in the labyrinthine levels of Turok 2.
