IDK how well it sold, but Muramasa would be on my list. The artwork in that game is simply gorgeous. I also concur with the nod to TvC; it showed a little bit of what Capcom used to be, IMO.

Most of the games I can think of are more or less hidden gems rather than "cult" games.

The Wii was loaded with relatively obscure titles that are fun. Deadly Creatures, Ivy the Kiwi?, and Monster Lab immediately come to mind.

The 360 has some awesome XBLA titles that didn't receive much mainstream attention, but have fanatical followings. State of Decay, Shadow Complex, and The Dishwasher series are a few good ones.

I don't have any suggestions for PS3 since I never really had much use for mine.

GoldenEye on the Wii certainly gave me the cult classic vibe. I really enjoyed that game too.

In fact, a lot of what the Wii had to offer could quality. Red Steel 2 also comes to mind.

I definitely agree with Deathsmiles and Child of Eden. I think Akai Katana could pretty easily be put on that list too.

Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed is one that I believe did poorly. (And it's definitely an awesome racing game with a lot of appeal for Sega fans.)

Bayonetta seems like an odd choice. I remember when it was released - no one would shut the hell up about it. Seems too big to be a cult classic, but I don't have sales figures in front of me.

I actually agree with Demon's Souls being on the list and I'm surprised that some folks don't. Niche developer, niche publisher... and yes it's popular, but isn't it mostly popular among a certain crowd? I've never heard "mainstream" gamers talk about it.

I don't have any recommendations to add, unfortunately. I lot of my favorite 7th gen titles (like Eternal Sonata) are just too damn obscure to be considered. I agree with the DeathSmiles, Sin & Punishment, and Neptunia picks though.

My reasoning is that it doesn't meet the criteria.
(2) are or were generally ignored by most video game players upon release (i.e., games that did not quickly meet or exceed sales expectations, games that most video game players no longer play, etc.)

(3) received less than overwhelming critical acclaim
That's certainly not Demon's Souls. Reviewers went crazy for it and it got great scores almost across the board, several publications gave it game of the year (including GameSpot, as mainstream as it gets), and it almost sold a million copies in the US alone. According to VGChartz, it has sold even more than Dark Souls. It's one of the most popular and successful games to come out of Japan in the entire generation. The fanbase is nearly militant about it though, so I can understand why some would consider it "cult".

I'm not sure about sales figures honestly, although I do imagine they are somewhat high, but what about Bully: Scholarship Edition? Its a game I thoroughly enjoyed, and, like Red Dead Redemption, I think is much better than any of the Grand Theft Auto games that Rockstar has released. (Although I still have yet to play GTA: San Andreas, which I still kick myself for.)

Bully was a PS2 game that was merely ported to the 360 and Wii. Technically it's a sixth gen game.
