The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion
Going on some kind of quest into a mine. Great game so far, but the dialogue is beyond excessive. Really slows things down.
Anyone else like the Legend of Heroes games? You should. They are Falcom games. Falcom!!!

The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion
Things have kind of grinded to a halt.
I hate to say this about a Falcom game, but this one really isn't that good. It's not bad - just average. Falcom may be the master of action-RPGs (see Dragon Slayer and Ys), but console-style JRPGs are a whole different beast.
The main issue I have is the same issue I have with a large portion of post-4th gen JRPGs. The combat is just too damn slow. Every command is followed by some elaborate attack sequence or spell animation. I miss the days of FFVI where an easy battle could be won in 10 seconds by simply slamming the A button.
The story is awful too.
That said - I'm determined to see this one through until the end. At least that's how I'm feeling now.
Bottom line: if you must play a Legend of Heroes game, play TitS.

Re: RPG Progress Report
When I get done with the Ys games for PSP (first I need to *start* them) I plan on playing all the Legend of Heroes games on PSP in order... but I'm not sure if that order will mean starting with the second one or not because they were released so confusingly?
I CAN HANDLE IT, NO RPG IS TOO BORING FOR ME!

Re: RPG Progress Report
This is the correct order:

Yeah, Bandai really screwed things up in localization.
EDIT: Apparently there is some incentive for playing the PSP games (at least the Bandai-localized ones) in the incorrect Bandai order vs. the correct Falcom canon order. Something about characters and/or data transferring from one game to the next. I'll have to look into it.
Of course if you want to start at the very beginning you should pick up the Turbo CD game. I still need to do that myself. I would like to play through this entire series someday. I'm slowly working my way through the Dragon Slayer, Ys, Legend of Heroes, and Brandish series. Maybe after that I'll start to look seriously into Zwei!! and Vantage Master. So much Falcom, so little time...

Finally worked up the energy to start the giant transfer chain between my lower generation Pokémon games and my higher ones. The eventual goal is to have a complete file on Y.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Final level in FFXIII-2 definitely took the difficulty to another level.
Final boss took me down twice before I decided I needed to work on my stuff a bit (up until this point the game was pretty easy).
Can't help but love it when it all gets serious topped off with one of the best looking final areas I've seen in a long time and just wow.
Noel, Yeul, and Caius all made this game level up big time and the time traveling thing turned out to be pretty awesome with their conflict. Lighting Returns is gonna have to try really hard to surpass this stuff, especially since I still hate her.
(seriously why does her voice/dialogue suck so much? Cue bad Shakespearean talk or what? Should I pretend she's a robot?)
But yeah, XIII-2 was really fun. Thumbs up.

I started work on that a while back.
The goal was to get one of every pokémon on my 4th gen game, transfer them all to gen 5 and catch the new ones in that game, then transfer all of those to Y and catch all the new ones there, thereby completing the pokédex over all those generations (I skipped gen 3 because there are some Pokémon I don't have any access to on those games, such as Lugia, Celebi, Deoxys and Jirachi).
I got to 486/493 pokémon on Diamond before I stopped (That's one of each in the PC mind, not just the pokédex - as in I have Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur lined up, not just one of them). I restarted Heartgold recently and 6 of the 7 I need to finish are legendaries which I need to catch in that game, and I'm quite a way from the point I can catch them at right now.
The last 7 are: Mewtwo, Suicune, Raikou, Entei, Lugia, Tyranitar, Latias.

The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion
A little more progress.
Combat in this game is so superficial and almost unnecessary. There are no random battles and the enemies are placed in specific locations. I'm making sure to fight every individual battle once and that's it - no grinding. Seems to be working okay.
And oh my god is the localization bad. I swear whoever translated Zero Wing and Magician Lord also worked on this game. One example:
"He is not the kind of person who could walk out on a girl who could use his help and keep on a journey."
I swear there's no capital Os in the dialogue either - they're 0s (zeroes) instead...

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes
Okay Bone, I now know that I can enjoy an 8-bit RPG that isn't an ARPG!
I just got done grinding up to level 8, so that I could attempt to fight the Commander. Yeah... he slaughtered me. Silencing everyone in the party right out of the gate is an asshole move. So, now I am farming for gold to buy the Wolf gear from the little town around the corner.
Even though the game has just been grinding and farming, I am having a blast with it. I love the cool anime stills and cheesy voice acting of early cd games. This game doesn't lead you blindly either, characters will straight up tell you, "You need to be level # to do this"
