Unfortunately no model number is listed so don't know what it is beyond a 'Smart LG TV' that's sold in the UK, but I imagine it applies to most if not all recent LG Smart TVs. I don't have an LG TV, but I think I'll go add those domains to my hosts file anyway so I have them stored to remember if I need to add them to router blocks later.

I figured the TV info was probably related to some ad-targeting algorithms, but it's pretty fucked up that it'll still transmit the data even if you disable the option.
The stuff about reading the USB stick and transmitting data about the files on there is pretty fucked up too.
Yikes!

You can just keep it permanently offline if you end up getting one incidentally (say you upgrade/replace your TV and a Smart TV is the only thing available or something)fastbilly1 wrote:That seals it, no Smart TV for me ever.
I never saw any reason to go out of my way to get a Smart TV to begin with.

I cannot see a near future where Smart TVs are the only thing available, but you make a good point.AppleQueso wrote:You can just keep it permanently offline if you end up getting one incidentally (say you upgrade/replace your TV and a Smart TV is the only thing available or something)fastbilly1 wrote:That seals it, no Smart TV for me ever.

This is indeed disturbing. I've heard these kinds of embedded internet devices are riddled with security issues as well. Avoid, Will Robinson, Avoid!!!

It gets better. It sniffs shared files on your network too, not just what's watched directly on it or plugged in.
