Ratings wise, SHIELD is the #2 watched show for the 18-49 year old male demographic, right behind Big Bang Theory. So it has a huge fanbase. Of course that doesn't make the show good (coming from a guy who says Fresh Prince>Seinfeld).

The show gives the comic lovers inside jokes and teases viewers that have never read a comic. It's not really for me, but it does have mass appeal.

To be fair, Arrow is in its second season. It's really hitting its stride now, as many shows do when they hit season 2. That being said, yeah, it's better than SHIELD. Arrow's running on all cylinders right now. The show seems to follow Nolan's Batman formula and it works pretty well for TV.

From what I hear, SHIELD has lost about half its ratings since the pilot, but it's still serving a demographic that ABC desperately lacks, so they are still happy with its performance and Marvel and Disney want that show to succeed as they are pushing hard to get more Marvel related TV out there to tie into their movies. So I think the show will stick around for a while.

And just a random note about Arrow, his "vigilante" voice is WAAAAAAAY better than Christian Bale's. Makes you realize just how dumb Bale's Batman voice really was

I'm feeling pretty damn smart right now (as I often do)

There was a thread on the Whedonesque fansite about 2 or 3 weeks ago in response to an article posted on an entertainment website discussing Coulson theories. I put forth a theory that to my knowledge has not been mentioned ANYWHERE on the internet, and it looks like tonight's episode just confirmed that theory

Go me. Go me. Go me.

Anyway, great episode. This shows getting good. This was the Thor movie crossover episode, and it also had a MAJOR Whedon shout out, which ties into the Coulson thing I mentioned above.

I had theorized that Coulson was some sort of imprinted memory inside someone's else's body. This was the whole concept behind Whedon's Dollhouse. The final scene of tonight's episode featured what was presumably a flashback with Coulson and another woman and they uttered two lines that were FREQUENTLY used by characters on Dollhouse. They're kind of the show's catch phrases. The two lines were done word for word on tonight's episode

So either that was pure fan service, or they are incorporating Dollhouse ideas into this show with Coulson

Even if my theory is wrong, I love the idea that the writers are teasing it. It shows that what goes on in my mental space is similar to what goes on in theirs

I'm kinda let down by the show for sure. I have fallen asleep during 2 episodes and that is usually my alarm for a show not being good

I think I can sum it up succinctly as- There isn't enough Marvel/Comicbook content to make it interesting. Thus it just becomes a sub par Buddy Cop/Crime Solving capers show with a bunch of characters who I fail to care about beyond their obvious surface level archtypes.

I enjoy Agents of SHIELD. But it's nothing that special, either. If it got cancelled, I wouldn't be all that broken up about it.
