Ok this question probably all the damn time, but I need the help of some firmware experts.
i have psp official firmware 5.01 on my slim and id love to have the latest M33 custom firmware on it. i recently fell in love with my buddys GP2X and id love to mod my PSP to run Neo Geo/SNES emulators, so i wont have to fork over the cash for a GP2X and its horrible battery life.
I searched a ton of forums/blogs/youtube for these so called "helpful" guides and none seem to clearly explain how to install M33 to a 5.01 psp slim. it seems different sources have radically different methods (tool batteries/directories BLAH BLAH BLAH)
SO can anyone clearly explain to me the process of succsessfuly installing M33 on my psp 5.01 slim

Re: PSP Custom Firmware Delima
As long as it's not one of the new PSP-3000 you can use Pandora to install custom firmware on it.
Google: PSP 5.1 Pandora downgrade
I've never used it though because I've had my PSP exploited since 2.0 (the first exploitable version for UK PSPs) so I couldn't tell you how to do it.

i first used this gizmodo tutorial. It is really good- treats you like you are retarded and provide you with all the links to all the software you need.
http://gizmodo.com/5034551/how-to-hack- ... ebrew-apps
That'll get you up to 4.01 m33-2 i think.... maybe 3.
Then i used this tutorial to bring me current. You might want to start with this one. I didn't have it on hand at the time, but it was the best one i could find to bring you up to 500-m33-3. Provides all the software you need.

You do absolutely need a Pandora battery though. You can make one out of an existing battery... but then you need another battery. The first tutorial has a link to a cheap one. It ships out of hong kong, so the wait is a little longer than normal.
good luck! The mvs neo geo emulation is fantastic.

It was super easy to do if you just follow the steps. There were a couple points that i thought i might be bricking the psp. You need to just be super patient with the program that runs to make the 'magic memory card.' At one point it is writing to the card and takes a long time without a progress bar or percent- its easy to think that it froze. Make a sandwich- play a game or something. Patience.
Re: PSP Custom Firmware Delima
This is the guide I used a while back:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/708959
It's been updated several times ever since. Since its also able to unbrick, there's really no chance of bricking your PSP.
I used a hard mod to permanently mod my stock PSP battery into a Pandora battery, then went out and bought the 'extended life' battery. Or you can buy a Pandora battery on the internet, but since either way you have to buy a battery, why not end up with one that has a longer life? The battery mod consist of breaking a single connection on the battery's PCB, extremely easy to do if you ask me.

Congrats!
Re: PSP Custom Firmware Delima
Seriously, congrats. The PSP with custom firmware is a powerful thing.
I'm waiting for the SNES emulator to finally get updated. Most games run great, but it seems any game with a chip runs slow. All the Donkey Kong Country's run too slow to play, thats my main concern lol.
