I'll bet a lot of us can appreciate good sprite design. What sprite character over the years is your favorite? Whether you appreciate the technical achievement of the animations for that console, or just the artistic charm, which one stands out in your mind?
I'm torn between Kirby from Kirby's Adventure on NES or Shantae on Gameboy Color.
What sprite, on any console, impressed you the most?

The Prince from the original PoP in '89 blew my mind to pieces. Seeing Ryu in SFIII for the first time was similarly outstanding.
On a more personal level, I'd say:
Ryu from SFII (ARC)
Mushashi/Hayate from Shadow Dancer (GEN)
Blaze from Streets of Rage 2 (GEN)
Nightcrawler from X-men: Arcade (ARC)
Prince Ali from Beyond Oasis (GEN)
Sketch Turner from Comix Zone (GEN)

I know some might not agree but Guilty Gear X was pretty amazing to me when I first got it.

Vectorman probably is the piece de resistance of 16-bit Megadrive sprites. The artists at the now-defunct Blue Sky Software used tweening to animate Vectorman (if you've ever fiddled with Flash you'd already know what this term means

But that is probably due to a different reason. I spent hours on the Genesis with Sonic 3 and Vectorman watching the Sprite scroll and trying to figure out how they made all those animations. Yeah I was a kid and the internet wasn't around.
