Looking into buying a PS3...
So, I'm interested in buying a PS3. I'm looking at getting one of the older fat models that are backwards compatible. I'm just a bit unsure about dependability. I'm not sure exactly which model I should get, and I'm also interested in what a good price would be. I'm also open to game suggestions, as I don't know what I will want other than Demon's Souls, that game that is a lot like Zelda, and the Last of Us.

The 60GB model is the most fully featured one. It's the one I have.
Honestly though, if you already have a PS2, it's not really worth the extra cash you'll have to fork over for it. The fats tend to run hotter anyway.

Well, I've never owned a Sony console excluding a fat PSP I had for a while, so I figured it would work as a nice full pre-PS4 setup. What options would I have to keep them from getting hot or getting YLOD and such? I just don't want to get one and have it burst into flames on me.AppleQueso wrote:The 60GB model is the most fully featured one. It's the one I have.

You'd really be better off buying a reliable slim model and then get a working PS2 from a forum member for Ps1/ps2 games.
Buying an old ps3 just doesn't seem logical with so many affordable slim units out there.

I'd go for a PS3 slim and PS2 slim. The backwards compatible models are pricey and not entirely reliable.

Keep it in an open space with plenty of room to "breathe."Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, I've never owned a Sony console excluding a fat PSP I had for a while, so I figured it would work as a nice full pre-PS4 setup. But yeah, do what everyone else said and just get a slim PS3 and a PS2. It'll cost you less altogether than an old b/c PS3 anyway

And to echo what has been said don't waste your money on a backwards compatible ps3. You could probably find a bundle with TLOU for cheap around black Friday that comes with PS+, that way you'll be saving money and getting more for less.

I'd recommend what everyone else saying too. I've got a 60gb backwards launch model. Thing has broken on me twice. 1 ylod and 1 blue ray lazer fail. I fixed both and it's still running but yeah - not recommended. Get a dependable slim model.

Mine actually had that problem when I got it. Ended up replacing the part and getting it working, but I really should've probably demanded a refund or at least reimbursement. Oh well, it's worked like a champ ever since.chupon wrote:I'd recommend what everyone else saying too. I've got a 60gb backwards launch model. If I could do it all over I would've just saved some of my money and bought a slim model. I don't ever really play ps2 games on it anyway.
