What is it with manufacturer's these days? Failure rate is very high. You can't be working on a console for 7 years then it does not work out of the box. All internal components are old hardware, its not like a new form of technology. I remember a time when you bought something it worked , it always worked. Those were very rare situations where it did not work.

Today you buy stuff cross-fingered for it work and its in all equipment : Hard Drives , cars, consoles, smart-phones you name it...

I thought my PS4 was busted for the first few hours of its life. I set it up on the same TV I use for my PS3 and 360 and wasn't getting any video output at all. Nothing I did helped including changing cables, wiggling things around, removing and reseating the HDD, looking at HDMI port pins, putting the system into safe mode. So I spent hours blasting Sonys facebook, twitter, sitting on hold for Playstation customer service (never got to anyone in over an hour and half), reading all of the forums and news I could find on people having issues and fixes. Finally I settled on sending the thing back to Amazon for a full refund. Amazon was amazing and quickly got me a return process started. With my return shipping label in my email inbox ready to go I thought my launch day was over. I was completely bummed, day ruined, fuck you world.

While I was boxing everything back up, I paused for a moment, thought to myself wth and decided to go ahead and try it on my old crappy 32" magnavox lcd tv in my bedroom. To my amazement without hesitation the thing starts right up! So I proceed with the initial setup, install the 1.5 firmware update and everything appears to be fine. So I think maybe it is my living room TV acting up... I take the PS4 back out to the living room and now it magically works just fine. All video settings we left unchanged/ set to automatic (like they would be out of the box) and now it just works. While I was certainly happy I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed that the joy of launch day had been significantly diminished by 4 hours of hassle and stress.

Regardless I spent last night playing Killzone, NFS Rivals, BF4, Resogun, downloading the video steaming apps and everything seems to be working just fine now. I really like what I have played so far, the new interface, and especially like the new dualshock 4! It is by far the best controller Sony has ever made.

Hopefully the systems continues to work as expected and no other strange events like the one I experienced out of the box happens again. This was certainly a launch experience I won't forget.

Sounds like some of us are enjoying the console, while others are not having great luck. I feel bad for those folks. Sorry guys (and gals).

On a side note, I thought this thing was supposed to let you "suspend" the system in the middle of gameplay and then turn it back on later and be right back in the game.

Can't seem to get that to work. What am I doing wrong? I'm not turning the system off, I'm just going to Hibernate mode, or whatever. Then when I turn the PS4 back on, the game has stopped and I have to reload into it, and my progress is lost (at least to the last save point.)

Does this only work on some games? WTF Sony? I thought this feature was a major selling point. What am I doing wrong? Anyone?

Had a full night playing the PS4 and played it some today as well. Killzone is decent. It isnt blowing me away, but it is a quality game. I think many of the reviews are spot on. I havent tried ACIV yet.

Resogun is fairly fun, and I am not even a shmups fan. It is very pretty and engaging.

I was pleasantly surprised by Contrast. I love the style and charm of it. Lighting and all looks excellent on the PS4. My wife is really loving it. She has always been a fan of the 20s cabaret type of setting.

I tried out the vita remote play as well and it is great. Works very similar as to the Wii U controller but with seemingly better range due to wifi. In the same room as the system, I was experiencing little to no noticeable lag.

So far a great system that has a lot of potential.
