Mirror's Edge
Re: Mirror's Edge
i bought it and am playing it now- it is really really fun. I love different takes on the same old first person genre and this one just oozes style. Can't see it being very replayable except for speedruns. Regardless of how you get it- everyone should check it out. Give yourself an hour to get used to the controls. It'll become very fluid after a while.

Re: Mirror's Edge
Just finished it on normal - it's short (less than 2 days, although I did get quite into it) but very cool, gets u chewing your gums going for big jumps like any good action game. Probably would recommend renting if that's ur thing - also, i tried the demo on xbox and ps3, and the xbox was totally better - the ps3 had quite bad tearing, which was not there in the xbox version.
I thought i'd completed it without shooting, but didn;t get the achievement, so gotta do it again

Re: Mirror's Edge
Played the 360 demo, it's pretty cool, but yeah the controls suck. Seems to me like the platform based stuff should have been on the face buttons rather than the shoulder ones. Since the platforming seems to be the most important part of the game. It's damn annoying having to reach for the stupid left bumper to jump and left trigger to crouch, slide whatever. Given that combat seems A)rather simple B) somewhat optional and C)less important than the platforming, put those commands on the triggers. Oh well.
I'm betting it plays better on a PS3 since the controller is better for pretty much anything that isn't a first person shooter. Probably more comfortable reaching for those triggers. Is there an option to configure the controls? Because I can't see myself enjoying this game otherwise. Maybe it's too many years playing traditional platformers, but using the left bumper to jump gets a thumbs down from me

Re: Mirror's Edge
Wasn't too keen on the Tomb Raider Underworld demo either. The camera is just all over the place and seems to love zooming in on Lara for no damn reason. The combat is sloppy and they changed the adrenaline dodge for some reason. It's their THIRD FUCKING TOMB RAIDER GAME!!! You morons STILL can't get basic combat down? Prince of Persia:Sands of Time got it right on their FIRST FUCKING TRY!!! Tomb Raider is starting to really feel like just a poor man's Prince of Persia
Speaking of which, I think the new Prince game is pretty much going to be my platformer of choice this holiday season

Re: Mirror's Edge
This game is more fun, and maybe even slightly more challenging, than Gears of War 2 was for me. Completely different games, so I guess it doesn't matter.
Just finished Chapter 4 on the PS3. Playing on "Normal" difficulty (anyone who complains about length/challenge on easy is missing the point of any game). Also using "runner vision" so my goal areas are red but I got rid of the center dot to make everything look more realistic, like the game designers intended. I find this game to be moderately difficult. Platforming is great, speed runs are the bread and butter of this game. Shoulder buttons work wonderfully on the PS3.
The problem comes with the combat. Then again, I shouldn't call it a problem. Since I've got four fingers on the shoulder buttons, I'm all about platforming, and the face buttons are largely ignored. Pressing triangle to disarm an opponent has to be just right, and if I miss twice, or once when I'm facing two opponents, I get killed pretty fast. I also tried for a few levels to play without killing anyone, but sometimes it's just easier to cap a few people before I move on - to avoid missing a disarm opportunity and being killed. Plus I accidentally killed one guy by kicking him off a scaffolding 40 stories up, so i figured not to stress on it anymore.
And Faith seems like a bad shot - which I love. She's not a shooter, so she doesn't have robotic sniper abilities like Marcus Fenix or Master Chief. She's an acrobat, a runner, but not a fighter, really.
I rented this from Gamefly, but now I'm going to purchase it. This year's Assassin's Creed if I say so myself. I loved the control system with that game, but since Mirror's Edge is strictly about the platforming elements, it would make things too simple. Developers need to take note of what Dice has done... it's nice to have a sense of weight, space, and motion to a character for once.

Re: Mirror's Edge
I enjoyed the demo, I am thinking of picking it up sometimes in the future. I could see the potential in this game, and to me I think the game is quiet refreshing, since almost all the games are the same.

Re: Mirror's Edge
Okay, the end of level 5 is utterly stupid. If you fail, it doesn't let you start in the same position. It's easier to restart at the checkpoint two minutes back than to continue immediately.
This part requires that you shoot out a glass ceiling tile, and you can easily disarm a police officer and take his handgun to do it. If you die, you start in a different place, and you have to steal a gun from one of four SWAT officers chasing you. Another point in the game where I am frustrated enough to put the game down and try again after work...

is that the part in the mall where you are trying to get up to the catwalk?RackGaki wrote:Okay, the end of level 5 is utterly stupid. If you fail, it doesn't let you start in the same position. It's easier to restart at the checkpoint two minutes back than to continue immediately.

If so you don't have to shoot the glass- in fact you don't have to shoot any glass at all. Just walk up to it and punch it. Step back and then start your run.
though- that part is still hard. Getting to that catwalk is a bitch.
Re: Mirror's Edge
Cool, I will just try that again tonight. I tried a few times, and just assumed that I couldn't break it with my attack.

Re: Mirror's Edge
Is it just me, or does it seem like the commercials are advertising this MULTI-CONSOLE game as a PS3 game? I've only noticed the PS3 logo popping up at the end of the commercial, unless I blinked and missed it saying available for 360 or something. Is Sony starting to seriously throw some money around?
