Morrowind GOTY on Original XBox Having Framerate Issues

Post by BurningDoom »

I'm only noticing this on this particular game. While I'm playing the framerate is jerky. And it's to the point of annoyance. I don't understand why it does this on this game only. I'm wanting to replay it years later, and I don't even have the same model Xbox anymore that I original played it on, so I'm hoping it doesn't have something to do with the various drives in the various models.

I tried to Google the problem, but do you know how hard it is to try to find a solution for the original Xbox rather than PC and Xbox 360 solutions using Google? How difficult is this crap going to get when we're mid-way through the Xbox One's generation?

So I was wondering if anyone else has run into this and if there's a solution?

Morrowind had a crappy framerate on Xbox. I think your memory might be failing you as to how well it ran.

I just recently became an owner of this game and I only have an Xbox 360 to run the game on but I don't see any issues with the frame rate other than a few short stutters that's common in Bethesda games. The sound is a little off though and that has to do with the 360 emulating the game.

Do you own a 360? Can you try it on that hardware?

The stutters a little while loading normally, yeah. But I'm talking like every few steps it's getting jerky.

And yeah, it works on my 360. But I tried playing it via the 360 in the past, and there's some major bugs when using the 360 with this game. One time I literally fell through the ground at one point, and was stuck in a giant ocean, look up above at the ground and buildings above me.

Admittedly though that's more the game itself and not so much the 360. Morrowind's a glitchfest, even with the Game of the Year version. At least it doesn't have the save deletion problems of its original console release.

There's a "hack" called Morrowind GOTY Perfect that a modder went and optimized for Xbox, removing certain things like scenery rocks and such to create a more stable framerate while also cleaning up character models and such that improves the graphics of the game overall. If you have a modded original xbox, I'd suggest looking for it.

Among other changes, from the readme:

GRAPHICAL AND GAME IMPROVEMENTS:
-----------------------

Better Heads Xbox Edition

Better Bodies Xbox Edition

Increased Hair Style Selections: Converted by me, adds more hairstyles
for all races

Morrowind Anti-cities mod - gets rid of some rocks and other things
to improve game performance, disable if it causes issues

Road Signs: Show real City Names now

New Textures: Smaller filesize = better framerate

New xbox loading screens! - Much nicer on the eyes

Abot Where are all the Birds going? - Adds birds to Morrowind!
Tested and converted by me, created by Abot, works great!

Seyda Neen Dialogue - Couldn't get this to work in other cities, but check out the new
dialogue in Seyda Neen, this wasn't created by me, but it's a damn fine mod.
