Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus

Post by Gamerforlife »

Comes out next week, I'm pre-ordering this tonight. And yes, this one's by Insomniac. This year's seen some great platformers in Puppeteer, Guacamelee, Steamworld Dig, Castle of Illusion, Sly Cooper 4, Ducktales and presumably Rayman Legends (I haven't played it). Here's a last minute contender for platform game of the year

This also includes Quest for Booty. Though given how long that game's already been out I was hoping for trophy support but I've not heard anything

I had written off the R&C franchise as it seemed Insomniac had retooled it to use as a pusher for that motion controller thing and four controller multiplayer, but this one seems like it's more in line with the older games. I'm interested, especially since it comes with QfB.

Just started playing it, nice to see the series' trademark humor still in effect. The pre-title screen intro and the difficulty mode descriptions have already put a smile on my face

Cadet difficulty - "Enemies have been made aware of your trainee status and have agreed to take it easy on you."

Legend difficulty - "For expert players who wear their hats backwards and walk away from explosions in slow motion"

EDIT: Wow! Epic first level!

I finished up the first planet, and this definitely feels like a traditional Ratchet & Clank game. I've blasted bad guys, upgraded weapons, leveled up my nanotech, collected specs for a Rhyno weapon, played some Clank mini-games, grabbed some gold bolts and raritanium, unlocked a battle arena, acquired some skill points, bought some armor, laughed at some jokes and watched Captain Quark be a cowardly idiot. And the game has already informed me that there will be a classic Challenge mode when I finish the game. It's about what I'd expect from and R & C game. I might dare say it even feels a bit more polished than previous ones I've played

Does not come with Quest for Booty in Australia, that sucks!

Man, there are some great lines in this

From the Zircon Family (Yeah, that's actually a thing)

Mrs. Zircon - "Mrs. Zircon is going shopping...and DEATH is on sale!"

Mr Zircon - "You're a bunch of stupid idiots!"

Zircon Jr. - "Little Zircon doesn't need an allowance. His allowance is CARNAGE!"

Mrs. Zircon to Zircon Jr. - "Play Time is Slay Time"

From the Thugs 4 Less battle arena:

"The audience may remember Ratchet from just a few hours ago, when we boarded his ship and tried to murder him and his friends  "

"The little robot on Ratchet's back is Clank, his adorable logical foil"

Was looking into the rest of the series after hearing about R&C: Into the Nexus just being released on the 12th.

The only game ive played in the series was Going Commando and i couldnt get into it, and ended up trading it in, but the series has come along way since then and thought id give it another shot.

Now im just stumped on where to start, i was thinking of getting the R&C Collection and then going to the Future series.

Ive read about how bad All 4 One and Full Front Assault were, so steering clear of those.

Well, Up Your Arsenal is a bit more refined in a lot of areas than Going Commando. That's on the Collection. Or you could jump right into Tools of Destruction. That's probably the most accessible Ratchet game in my opinion, and it's the beginning of the Future story so you can jump right into that story from the beginning. If you couldn't get into Going Commando I'd suggest not even trying the very first Ratchet & Clank game, you won't be impressed. Crack in Time is a tough one to recommend because it's so different from other Ratchet & Clank games. That's not to say that it's bad though, just different. A lot of fans think it's the best Ratchet game. I actually think it's one of the weakest.

The Zircon Family is really awesome. They're useful with the added firepower and their ability to see enemies before I do, but even better is the frequent commentary they have on every little thing from me smashing crates, to enemies damaging me, to me visiting vendors to complementing each other on their kills. It's good stuff. Mr Zircon will even tell you he's bored if you don't kill anything for a while :D

One of my favorite moments happened when I took a hit and Mrs. Zircon said, "Hey! You don't hurt the furball!"

Also awesome is the winterizer, which is just the old sheepinator being recycled yet again, but it is still awesome. It turns enemies into snowmen while play a FREAKING CHRISTMAS CAROL

So imagine you've got that going, while also listening to funny commentary from the Zircon family. Even the thugs have good lines. I had one yell at me in a battle arena challenge with, "Hey, he's using nanotech. That's not fair!"

I don't think I have ever played a video game where the enemies complained about me being able to use health items :)

This is so ridiculously awesome

The Ryno plays Night on Bald Mountain when you fire it and is described in-game as the "intergalactic mic drop" 8)

"It ends arguments with death and destruction"
