Help Me Build a List of Hard Rock/Metal Influenced Games
Re: Help Me Build a List of Hard Rock/Metal Influenced Games
I feel like at least 10-15% of all video games ever could potentially fall into this category.

BD, you might consider changing the arrangement for your list a little between games influenced by rock and metal for content(character or gameplay design) vs. just musical themes.

^ I was just trying to get a list together to pick through, check out online reviews of, then potentially add to my wishlist for when I'm on the hunt.

Yeah, but you're already looking at quite a few games. I figured this would be an easier way to break it down for you.BurningDoom wrote:^ I was just trying to get a list together to pick through, check out online reviews of, then potentially add to my wishlist for when I'm on the hunt.

I wouldn't quite say that, unless we're being really liberal with whether or not a game has a hard rock/metal soundtrack. Not that many games have soundtracks that are intentionally metal and at least 90% of the tracks are.dsheinem wrote:I feel like at least 10-15% of all video games ever could potentially fall into this category.
This is all I was thinking of when I fired out a bunch of random ones.BurningDoom wrote:have a significant amount of metal/hard rock tracks in them

I think a thread about games with cool references and/or themes taken from rock/metal would be a bit more fun, but oh well.
More on-topic:
F-Zero X has a pretty rad (and VERY metal) soundtrack

BATTLE CLASH!
This list would be sooo much easier to compile if it was done by console.

Both of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighting games as well (1999 and 2013). All the characters are named after different rock and metal related stuff. The 1999 game isn't that metal with the OST, but the 2013 game is full of great metal tracks. They also incorporate something from what each of the characters are named after into their themes, it's pretty cool.
For example:
Kira Yoshikage - His power is called Killer Queen, so there's a reference to the song at 0:47
ACDC - Back in Black at 0:45

Contra Shattered Soldier has a lot of metal sounding tracks
Mega Man X5 has bosses named after members of Guns N Roses
Lollipop Chainsaw had tracks from Arch Enemy, The Runaways, and Five Finger Death Punch, as well as FOUR bosses that are completely based around Rock/Metal influences. One looks like Elvis. One is modeled after Jimmy Urine. One looks like a viking metal band character and there's that biker/rock star dude as well.

This is most definitely the music style of R-Type III and Eliminate Down.
Metal Slug 5 is a notable departure from the jazzy/military sounding songs of the other Metal Slugs.
Also, why is DonPachi grouped with its sequel when its music is purely military themed?
