Do you care about rumble?
Re: Do you care about rumble?
Certain games I like it in, war games when i'm being shot at it's good for I think, but in racing games it pisses me off, I get obsessive about getting the right line through a course and don't need any distractions.

Re: Do you care about rumble?
its not the strongest no but I think the reason I didnt notice it working is because I was engrossed in the game and the rumble didnt really add to my enjoyment.
I agree that the rumble pack gives the DC a nice wieghty feel that it was otherwise lacking and making it feel cheap

Re: Do you care about rumble?
my thoughts exactally, minus the vibrator part. On the few games i don't play with arcade sticks, i disable rumble immediately.Doctor Fugue wrote:I have hated rumble with a passion ever since it first came out. Completely worthless. I can't understand how it is supposed to make the experience more "real"...it does nothing for me except take me OUT of the experience.
BUZZ BUZZ...who wants a vibrator? It doesn't make me think "Yeah I really felt that gunshot to the head!" It makes me realize, "Yeah I'm holding a jiggly thing in my hands." No thanks.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

I like that it helps to tell you when your getting hit by enemies onscreen and off. Also to feel the rumble of the engines when your at full throttle diving towards the earth trying to dodge a missle in Ace Combat 6. I didn't buy a PS3 until it came out with rumble so I'd say its important to me. It adds to the immersion in some games, all I have to say is Rez + trance vibrator + woman + me = lots of fun .

The best rumbles came in guncon guns I know the first one didn't have it but the 4gamers gun from europe is pretty legitimate. It really adds something. just like the "kickback" in time crisis 4 it makes the game 30% more enjoyable

If done properly it can be cool. Trouble is that it is rarely ever done right. The only game that comes to mind that did it completely right was mgs2 (and by extension mgs3se although I've not played mgs4 so I can't say with that one)
Most games for the n64 or dc I don't care whether I have the vibration pack installed or not during gameplay.
But man, in those early days I thought it was cool as hell playing Goldeneye.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Well I thought it was pretty amazing when it came out.....(i was 10) now I barely notice it but when my bro and i talk about making games and stuff like that we think hey we shud add a light rumble here or a hard rumble here. Or in a racing game if you are going extremely fast the rumble makes you lose a little bit of control like how it is in real life. (the speed i mean)
Re: Do you care about rumble?
Get a Mad Catz rumble pack they perform much better. No wonder rumble was an afterthought for the Dreamcast since Sega designed such a shoddy accessory.

Re: Do you care about rumble?
I've honestly felt that rumble is better as an indicator, such as in NMH or in Ocarina of Time. The problem with the game controller rumble is that it's very nonspecific. You have soft and hard, and that's about it. Now, when we had things like the force feedback joystick, then it was immersive. Playing Mechwarrior 4 on my Sidewinder was great, since I could feel the stick move back and forth slightly as I was walking, and a good solid hit really kicked the stick in the appropriate direction.
