The PS4 thread
Re: The PS4 thread
Anyone get their grubby little hands on one yet? Just want to know what someone from the forums thinks about the new guy on the block.

Re: The PS4 thread
I sure haven't, but I walked past a few guys camping out outside of a local EB last night with lawn chairs and blankets. I couldn't believe it. What games were they so excited to play on this thing? Like someone said earlier in this thread, this is one of the most underwhelming launches in recent memory - there is absolutely nothing tempting as far as the launch titles go.Sano wrote:Anyone get their grubby little hands on one yet? I feel like it may have been in Sony and Microsoft's best interests to have thrown a bunch of money at 3rd party dev's to make games like ACIV next gen only. At least as far as making the PS4 and XB1 more appealing at launch.

Re: The PS4 thread
Well, my complaint isn't due to the cost of the system, but the lack of decent launch titles. If they had offered a FF7 remake as a launch title, I would have been right there camping out with those fanboys. As it stands, is there really anything there for games that are must buy, day one titles?dsheinem wrote:so close!Retrogamer0001 wrote:I sure haven't, but I walked past a few guys camping out outside of a local EB last night with lawn chairs and blankets. Killzone 2, 3, and Vita were all day 1 purchases for me. Shadowfall is my most anticipated game of this season, I think, aside from the 3DS Zelda.Retrogamer0001 wrote:

Re: The PS4 thread
I got mine at midnight last night. Took it home, did the update by USB (per some folks having "issues" doing it by web. I also figured that the PSN would be hammered.)
Update went fine, setup my PSN account and yeah, that's pretty much it. I didn't get any games because they wouldn't sell me Lego Marvel Super Heroes. Even though they had every other game available. "It's not out until tomorrow." I was like, "Um yeah, neither is the PS4. But it's technically midnight, so it is tomorrow."
Whatever, I'll get it today. But last night, I grabbed a couple of the free PSN games, but they were taking forever to download. I kept getting booted out of the PSN every few minutes. (Gee.... I wonder why?) LOL.
The main thing I notice is that it is much MUCH faster than the PS3. At everything. Switching between "apps" is very fast. I can be in a game, and switch to the Playstation Store quickly. Something I always wished I could do with the PS3. The menus are hard to navigate at first. Nothing is where you think it should be. Like switching from Windows XP to Windows 8 or something. If you're as computer nerd, then you should understand what I mean.
You can't (as of now) pause and resume a download as far as I can tell. I had a bunch of games downloading and I wanted to get Netflix, but it would only download like 10 things at a time, and it wouldn't let me pause the earlier ones. So I had to either delete the download completely or wait for it to finish. I remember on the PS3 that you could pause and resume downloads. Hmmmm. Oh well.
Now the kicker. A lot of folks were complaining yesterday of failed consoles and or bricked or DOA units. I was super nervous for mine. A few folks reported that theirs failed after Netflix installation. So I waited a bit before I installed the Netflix app. I downloaded it and nervously installed it. I entered my membership info and as it was logging in...... the console froze. OH NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! The controller stopped responding (wouldn't connect, just flashed the light bar and then turned off) and the console was flashing the white light. (Similar to the Taco Bell dude's PS4)
I was like... "F" my life. So I held down the power button, nothing. I had to unplug the console. I was super afraid that it wouldn't come back on.
But it did. And it gave me a warning about unplugging it before you power it off. Dicks. Anyway, it came back on, and I went ahead and tried Netflix again. It worked this time and streamed Super HD very well. I played a little of Resogun and Contrast. Both pretty neat.... but in the end I just wanted to play GTA 5 or something. LOL. Can't wait for Lego Marvel.
Also, and it may just be nostalgia, but I miss the PS3 dashboard. I liked it alot. The PS4 one seems kind of bland by comparison. I couldn't find any options for themes or colors. I'm sure that stuff is coming.
If you have questions, ask away.

Re: The PS4 thread
What I'm interested in is game load times because I've heard absolutely horrendous things ~ talking PS1 era of 2 minutes to get into a game. If you have no games I'm not sure you can answer that.

A fourth or fifth sequel to another FPS? No thanks, there are about a million to choose from already for the PS3/360.dsheinem wrote:Killzone 2, 3, and Vita were all day 1 purchases for me. Shadowfall is my most anticipated game of this season, I think, aside from the 3DS Zelda.Retrogamer0001 wrote:

What I find surprising, from Sony at least, is that several of their big first-party devs had a 2013 release for the PS3. While, obviously, something like the Last of Us takes a long time to make, so does a game console. I know for me, if the PS4 was launching with the Last of Us or Beyond, I'd have kept my preorder.ZenErik wrote:I feel like it may have been in Sony and Microsoft's best interests to have thrown a bunch of money at 3rd party dev's to make games like ACIV next gen only. Killzone might well be a perfectly fine game, but, I don't care to play FPS on consoles, automatically placing it in the pile of "shit I do not care about" with all the EA Sports games.
Multiplatform games make less sense, unless they wanted to pay them not to make a PC version as well.
