As far as the controller debate is concerned: I love the Dual Shock series of controllers. While I would like the left analog stick to be located where the D-Pad is, I can get over it. Also, I would like both analog sticks to be concave, instead of convex. But, I think they are changing that with the PS4. Also, I would like the L2 and R2 buttons to be more like triggers instead of the weird buttons of the DS3 or regular buttons of the DS2. However, it made sense to have them as regular buttons on the DS2, because FPS weren't as prevalent back then. Also, controls schemes of the times didn't lend themselves to shooting with the shoulder buttons. Face buttons still controlled your primary actions and the shoulder buttons were used for more secondary actions. Again, they are fixing this issue with the PS4. I like the 360 controller quite a bit as well. Just hated the D-Pad.
As far as the games are concerned: I actually haven't played a lot of those games. However, I have to say that I think Ico is decent, but not on the same level as SotC. Some of my favorite PS2 games are:
SotC
Silent Hill 2
Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec
Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero
Final Fantasy X
Burnout 3 Take Down
Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry 3
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly
Disgaea
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
Metal Gear Solid 2
GTA San Andreas
GTA Vice City
Onimusha
Resident Evil 4
SSX 3
Dragon Quest VIII
Tony Hawk 3
Dark Cloud 2
God of War
Virtua Fighter IV : Evo
Tekken 4
Tekken Tag Tournament
These are not only some of the best games on the system, but some of my favorite games of all time!
God of War II

Nice haul.
Castlevania Curse of Darkness is one to enjoy with a cheesy grin.
Here's 8 more to consider:
-Maximo. Play it like an R-Type.
-Dual Hearts. Spiritual successor to Alundra?
-Romancing Saga. Avoid encounters, enjoy a great adventure. Repeat.
-Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. Kick ass Ko-op.
-Wizardry Tale of Forsaken Land. Quality crawl.
-Klonoa 2. Worth a visit, you'll want to return.
-Gitaroo Man. Be a Dual Shock virtuoso.
-Magic Pengel. Ghibli doodles.
