During the first few seconds I thought this film ought to be called - Star Trek: The Dukes of Alpha Quadrant. Looks interesting. I'm not a big fan of TOS so it doesn't matter to me how they portray Kirk. The entire franchise did pick up after a couple of lame seasons of TNG imho (only to suffer stagnation several years―and bad shows―later), but it's the underlying philosophy put together by Gene Roddenberry so long ago that's proven quite endearing and almost timeless, if I dare say so.

Well, weve already ruined Star Wars, Indy, Dr Who (stupid 8th doctor), Trek is just the next in line. But Simon Pegg is Scotty. Thats gotta count for something.
Personally, I'd rather see a few well done movies based on the DS9 or Voyager stories and casts. I think some of the best Star Trek ever was done in those series.
