Question about cans of duster

Post by TheSegaSaturnGuy »

Okay so I figure it happens to everyone, you spray your can of air on a board to clean the dust off and the liquid comes out and bubbles on the board and disappears really fast. I am not one to use compressed air often so my questions are: What is this liquid? Can it potentially damage my board if too much gets sprayed on? Thanks for helping this modding noob!
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

Don't shake the can and keep it upright.

It is the gas that's compressed into a liquid. I'm not sure what the 'bitterant' is in canned air that's added to keep fuckwits from huffing it, so I don't know if that's harmful to stuff it might be sprayed directly on as liquid with the rest. However, like the can getting cold when you use it a lot, that's the liquid boiling back into gas, so it will chill where it touches a lot. If you spray the liquid on you, you can give yourself frostbite. Depending on what you spray it on, the stress of rapidly cooling could damage a fragile component, especially if you're spraying it on something that's currently very warm. Having it get rapidly cold could also lead to condensation.

I wouldnt worry about it, ive accidently sprayed it on my components before, just let it evaporate before turning the component on.

I've seen this happen on accident, but usually only when the can is brand new / really full. I haven't seen it cause harm but as previously stated if the component was warm theoretically it could. If you're working on something particularly valuable just use a can that's half full (and like hobie said, don't shake it, and keep it upright).

The same way that people huff spray paint, freon, and the like. Spray or pop the can in a big trash bag, then inhale from the top you're holding closed like a balloon. Unfortunately I know this because a girl a year older than me died huffing freon when I was in high school and one other evening I was hanging out with some not so smart people, another girl stopped breathing for a bit because they were doing it too. :(

Wow, people are morons. Apparently they don't know that's one of the quickest routes to brain damage.

One thing I've learned about people who do things that are proven to cause brain damage: they will always deny that it causes anyone brain damage.

That's because of the preexisting brain damage.
