What's a good PC controller for emulation?

I have the logitech dual action, and I give it my highest recommendation. Wireless controllers are too heavy, and with console controllers you have to mess with adapters and change them out all the time. My only complaint is that rumble doesn't work in Linux, but that's hardly logitech's fault. I've used it with everything from MAME to dosbox, and it works like a charm. Cheap too, don't overthink it, just go buy one.

I used to have one of those, but then before I knew it, it crapped out on me.

And after using my Xbox-to-USB adapter, which is easy as hell to make, I don't think I ever considered turning back, at least until the Xbox 360 Wireless USB thing.

Call me weird but whichever I'm using, analog or d-pad, I like it to be aligned with the face buttons. So I prefer the Xbox controller for 3D games and a PS2 like controller for 2D games.

Has anyone here seen this? You can actually switch placement on this controller...

Also, since it's an adapter, I can also use other Xbox controllers, like arcade sticks and racing wheels. But not lightguns. But then again, I have a laptop, and that screen isn't good for lightgun games.

do you remember the old Microsoft Sidewinder USB Gamepads?

They're old as anything, but I still use mine.

It's perfect for Genesis games, since the buttons are nearly in the same place.

Anything older than 2d and it's no help, though.

I have two of these and like it a lot, very comfortable. There are some complaints with it being hard to specify a single direction reliably, though (which is very relevant in some games, and not relevant at all in many).

I'll do you one better; I have a "game port" Sidewinder. I also have 4 of the USB ones (Best Buy clearance, $5/ea) but while I think it's a good pad, the d-pad really needs to be worn in for it to be a worthwhile controller IMO.

My old N64 died yesterday so there's no way to play Majora's Mask without an emu I guess.
Which controller should I get that would be best for N64 platformers like Zelda or mario 64? There isn't a lot of choice here in my town ......should I get a Dualshock ripoff for €15 or splurge and get the wired X360 controller for €35?

Go to raphnet.com and buy a chip to convert a snes, nes, n64, sega, etc controller to usb. it takes some know how, but it is easily one of the best purchases ive ever made! Why play with a generic controller when you can play with the original?

I usually use a Hori arcade stick for 360. USB and uses the same driver as a regular 360 controller, available from Microsoft.
