Thanks.

I don't milk the 2nd boss too much, I usually take him out pretty quickly. I try to get lv4 (extend) by the end of the 2nd boss. I've gotten to stage 4 a few times, but with less focus on scoring... regardless, once I get to the 3rd boss fight, my focus is purely on survival from there out. I think stage 4 midboss is as far as I've gotten on one credit.

I hadn't played this much lately, but a local arcade had it a couple years ago, so I at least had some practice with the one button style of gameplay. I put in a lot of runs this weekend to get that score.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

annoyed. Had a decent run (meaning, I beat dsh) and my F12 isn't working to take a screenshot now. No idea why not. So I lost that one. And now I re-started MAME but all my runs have been garbage where I'm dying on first boss. And now I'm too shaky to play well. :x

Don't feel bad. On the DC port, I can get to stage 3 boss consistently, and beat it about 40-50% of the time. Now I'm fighting to even see Stage 3.

My frustration is mounting.

Keep hearing people talk about farming the first boss for exp. Anyone got any tips.

Just figured out today that the bullet reflect(which I have been neglecting up to this point) does tons of damage which results in a nice flow of exp cubes whenever you use it on a boss. Using that tactic I have been able to consistently get out of stage 1 with 200,000,000-300,000,000 on a good run.

Finally Broke 1 Billion. Scared the crap out of myself though :P. Hit the button I assigned for reset right as it took the screenshot got lucky :P.

I expect my board to arrive tomorrow and I feel confident that will help my score - just not playing well right now.

This game is unique in that all the stages are harder at the beginning than the end. For those stuck at the beginning of stage 3, there are a ton of cubes to chain, but it is dang tough, if you forget chaining and just bomb your way through, there are huge points at the 2/3 mark and the end of the stage is very easy. The 3rd boss attacks so dang fast, just brutal. There are safe spots, but I don't remember the pattern of where to go - going to take some work.

I have stage 1 down well, getting out with 65K experience which includes dropping the chain at that last portion of the stage (after the +10 cube and before the fighter jets come in from the top right - so tough to keep it going there w/o dying).

Picked the wrong ship by accident and ended up putting up my highest score yet. Taking me a bit, but I think i'm finally getting the hang of all this chaining business.

20,321,877,360 - DocHauser - The Columbian Hi-Ballers - Stage 4 - ShmupMAME4.2

Finally made it onto Stage 4, after many, many credits.

I think I've only managed to no-miss the first two stages on a couple of occasions. The first time it happened, I went into Stage 3 with 4 lives thinking 'Right, I can do this' and promptly lost all my lives in the space of a minute...
