Getting closer again!
Played the game once today and managed, not just to beat Stage 4 (Volcano) without any issues, but also Stage 5 (Moai), Stage 6 (Speed) and defeat Big Core MkII, reaching the Boss Rush and dying to those pesky Zubs and their crazy spawn patterns.
This play was important because I felt I had the stages figured out and had a good strategy for them. I think I'll be able to beat those three stages reliably, limiting my pain to the Boss Rush and the base level.
Watch out Gofer! Here I come!

Hey, I almost cleared the game with B/Power Type, and almost reached 4 billion.dunpeal2064 wrote:You could consider it overpowered. If it seems too strong (lul), then try Bomb. It is still far easier to use than Power, which I really think is only good if you are using it to take as many points from the game as possible.
There is no disadvantage to using Strong. You get the power of Boosted Power mode, and the bomb/hyper arrangement of Bomb mode.
In the arcade PCB, Strong mode actually had to be unlocked, either by clearing the game with one of the other shot types, or by putting in a code. (Although once unlocked it remained there permanently) So, I can see it being considered an overpowered extra shot type.
B-Bomb or C-Bomb should still make the game much more managable than B-Power.

Yep, the game is absolutely clearable with every ship and shot type... but Power is still the hardest (So, grats!). If you almost finished the first loop with Power, you should see how far you get with Strong!
4b isn't a bad start... but you can get that by the end of the first stage

They are all stages that revolve around positioning, if you have learned that, they aren't particularly difficult so I'm not that surprised.dunpeal2064 wrote:Damn dude, your progress jumped! That boss rush is straight nasty.
I've played the Boss Rush once, it seems to me the nasties are Covered Core and the Zub Rush.

Been playing some Dimahoo in preparation for the Shmups Solo League (after all this practice, I'm hoping it actually wins the poll). Made it to Stage 5 for the first time. Had over 3 million, and a X3 multiplier. Haven't really learned where to pick up certain items, so the score is a bit hit-and-miss. Enjoying it, though, game kicks ass.

Dimahoo... another game that I loved until I started seriously playing it for score.

I beat Stage 2 (Bubble Hell) in Gradius III and got halfway through the third stage (Volcano).
I now understand why this game is so difficult.

Taking a break from Gradius II? Or did you just want to see what you have in store for you next?
