The US box arts for Final Fantasy always look a bit ugly to me.

Paper Mario's a really good find, especially CIB. Final Fantasy X's are dirt cheap and everywhere, and are only going to get even cheaper and more common once the HD remake comes out. Still, it's a good game if you ask me, so yeah.

The story is not looking all that appealing to me on Final Fantasy X, but it is the last traditional FF game and you can't beat $5 for a complete copy.

I have both Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Super Paper Mario. But I still haven't come across a copy of the original Paper Mario.

Is it okay to just jump into Thousand Year Door without playing the original?

It's a Mario game, you'll be fine. I've not beaten that one, but from what I played, there's absolutely nothing in it that really expects you to know the first one. I'd be surprised if that changed later in the game.

At most, you might get some jokey references or something. So yeah, if you want to play it, dive right in.

Speaking of Mario, I snagged Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros. for the GBA today. It's a no-frills direct port of the original game to the GBA. Love it.

Also picked up a Vic Tokai Game Gear golf game called Scratch Golf. Not bad.

With the re-acquisition of this game (I traded it away, before), I am now official only 1 game away from my complete U.S. Neo Geo Pocket Color collection (my want list, not going for a complete set). The U.S. library really isn't all that large, so it's not a hard feat to accomplish.

Here's what I have now:
1. Bust-A-Move Pocket
2. Dark Arms: Beast Buster
3. Fatal Fury: First Contact
4. King of Fighters: R-2
5. Metal Slug: 1st Mission
6. Metal Slug: 2nd Mission
7. Pac-Man
8. Samurai Shodown II: Pocket Fighting Series
9. SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium
10. Sonic Pocket Adventure
So now, all I need that I still want is Shanghai Mini (which is basically just mahjong, so no rush when it normally goes for $20 at the cheapest. I can wait for a cheaper copy to come along).

I really wish the NGPC had a larger library since it's likely the only Neo Geo system I'll ever own (the others are too pricey to collect for), and it really is a solid little handheld.

I've been toying with the idea of going for a complete Neo Geo X game library. Only seven games.

Although a lot of the characters are annoying, the story in Final Fantasy X ends up being pretty good. Also, the battle system is really great; so, I would recommend diving into it.

With regard to Paper Mario, I can assure you that you do not need to play through the first game before you dive into The Thousand Year door. I actually finished up The Thousand Year Door a few months ago, and I enjoyed it. The game "world" is a bit small, but , it ha great combat and a charming story. (Also, The Thousand Year Door is up there with Portal as one of the funniest games ever written IMO.)

Definitely agree with all of this. Though it's very linear, it's also paced pretty well. You're always moving from one point to the next and it never really feels like stuff is just shoehorned in. It's got it's twists and turns, but they never feel like they came from nowhere or anything and the story stays very coherent right up until the very end.

That battle system is nice too, for sure. Probably my favorite FF battle system, even.

I'm actually pretty excited for the HD release, which is going to include the extra stuff that was added in the International Edition, which didn't come out in the US.

It's just a game that while it's got some significant problems, the good definitely outweighs the bad for me.

X isn't my favorite, but XIII doesn't even scratch the surface in comparison... and that's all we got this entire gen. So yeah I'm pretty stoked for the HD release myself.

I think it'll be interesting to compare to Lost Odyssey, since if I remember right FFX's plot had a lot to do with death (Hironobu Sakaguchi's favorite I guess).
