To go along with AoS Marvel has announced that they will be producing four original series for Netflix, focusing on the characters of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

Incidentally, I think Marvel's AOS hit a high note this week. We finally got some really good character moments and one particularly epic scene as well. With this episode it's starting to feel a little bit more like a Whedon show, which are all about strong character relationships. If the show maintains this level of quality I think things are looking up for comic book TV shows as the CW's Arrow has been really good. They just finished up a story arc involving Black Canary and Ra's al Ghul's League of Assassins that was very entertaining
EDIT: Also, Thor comes out Friday and next week's AOS is supposed to tie into it

Can't wait until it airs here [next year I think].
Avengers was a pretty good movie, guess high level film crossovers really work sometimes.

I'm mixed on the show at the moment.
On the one hand, tying into the Marvel film universe is appealing to me because I am a comic book fan and I like Phil Coulson as a character and Joss Whedon as a person. It looks quite good for the most part and the cast, while bland, have a decent chemistry going on.
On the other, it seems like they'd rather tease me with sly winks to the comics than actually use any of the literal thousands of characters at their disposal. Not all of Marvel's characters require a 200+million dollar budget. Why not sling a Madame Masque or MODOK in, at least in some form?
It doesn't really matter if the people not into the comics don't get it because they're watching, hopefully, for the characters and action. But it would make it more satisfying for me to watch.
So far it's reminding me of Enterprise in that the concept behind using the license is intriguing, but the show boils down to just another monster of the week, supernatural type affair when it could have a more interesting ongoing narrative.

I'm not too impressed with this show so far. I was impressed that they were able to get Samuel L. Jackson in for a brief cameo so early on though! I like some of the humor, but the cookie cutter "young and beautiful" agents bore me.
Despite saying that, I plan to continue watching. I can't be too judgemental, since the show is still quite new and is still working into itself. I'm hoping for many more obscure Marvel hero/villain introductions into the show.

so I've not been following this thread or this show, but is it safe to assume that anything good about the show so far has been credited to Joss Almighty and anything about the show that sucks has been blamed on ABC, the actors, or anything but Joss?

Actually, the most negative reactions I've seen to the show since it started have been from the Whedon faithful themselves, on a very prominent Whedon fan site I frequently visit. I haven't seen any blame tossed around for the issues they've had with the first few episodes other than the occasional person saying this being a Marvel created and owned universe limits what Joss can do creatively. However, response to last week's episode has been much more positive. And just looking at random reviews posted on various sites online, the general reaction seems to be that it was their best episode and I'm pretty much in that same camp myself. Even TV snob Sepinwall seemed to have some good things to say about it.

Yeah, this show just keeps getting better as they continue to slowly develop underlying plots like Skye's past and what REALLY happened to Agent Coulson. Digging it.

I don't think the episode to episode stuff is as good as other shows I watch, but the underlying questions behind the characters really intrigue me.TSTR wrote:Yeah, this show just keeps getting better as they continue to slowly develop underlying plots like Skye's past and what REALLY happened to Agent Coulson. From what I have read, it sounds like there are a lot of people who really want to like this show, but no one that actually does. (It also sounds like it is inferior ro Arrow in almost every respect.) Is that a fair characterization?
